About Me

I live outside Varberg at the moment, but I will soon be travelling so will most likely be able to host.

Note - I'm transgender and strongly prefer to be called by neutral pronouns (they/them or ze/zir). And Sam is the name I prefer nowadays, so please ignore that my references say something different :)

CURRENT MISSION

Learning about the world and myself, trying to find a way to make it make sense. Kinda failing.

ABOUT ME

I love spending an evening with a big cup of tea and friends - new or old - cuddled up in a big couch, just talking. Or with a nice book. Other days I long for adventures, go out dancing my arse off, watch action-films or cook super nice (mostly) vegan food. Generally though, I spend too much time in my bed watching makeup tutorials.

I just finished studying social anthropology and am sort of trying to find out where to go from here. I'm feeling quite a bit depressed about the state of the world, wondering how I can turn my future into something that contributes to putting it back on track again (which, honestly, I think isn't gonna happen - I think we're screwed - but maybe.)

Random facts about me:
Love animals, especially crows.
I usually feel awkward around lots of people, and I'm not the best at small-talking. But I'm learning to like it! And I do have my loud, super talkative spazzing out moments.
I feel bad when I'm spending too much time in cities.
Paint a lot, or have other little creative projects going on, almost compulsively.
I get really grumpy when I'm hungry.
Get really frickin angry when I see injustice.
I feel complete when I'm dancing.
Struggling with anxiety from time to time.
Keywords: Queer, feminist, silly, transgender, warmhearted. Think that about sums me up.

PHILOSOPHY

I like being unsure and exploring weakness. To be dynamic. To talk about the things no one ever talks about cause we're too afraid/ashamed, and try to embrace things that are awkward, uncool and shameful.
I love analysing power and how that's connected to personal experiences; what our emotions, bodies and perceptions of ourselves are related to power structures.
Is that a philosphy though? Not really, but I guess something like - see the bigger picture in the self/others, and the self/others in the bigger picture.

But then again, sometimes you just can't be bothered. And that's what warm quilts, lie-ins and ice cream are for.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been pretty inactive here during the past few years, but I've been co-hosting a bit with my sister. And I've both hosted and surfed in the past, made some amazing friends (and one enemy unfortunately... but don't worry, unless you're sexist/transphobic/homophobic/etc it won't happen).

Music, Movies, and Books

Sucker for young adult fantasy, for example books by Tamora Pierce and Philip Pullman.

As for music, I realised some years ago that there's no point in disliking any kind of music cause I'm just gonna end up liking it in the end anyway. I love exploring new genres, right now I'm trying to find my way into the world of blues and country.
Bands/musicians that generally give me goosebumps: Young magic. Patrick Wolf. Florence + the machine. Bring me the horizon. Tracy Chapman. Casa del mirto. John Frusciante. Dolly Parton.

Movies... wah, most things. Always forget what I've watched, but I love watching films in general. The movies I usually enjoy the most when I watch them are drama/visually beautiful films like, say, A Single Man, or Weekend, or The Hours, but when I sit down to pick a film I fall into picking ones that are easy to digest. Like kids' movies or action/adventure (which end up driving me mad cause 90% of them are so sexist and just unrealistic and annoying). If anyone has a recommendation for action films that feel a bit feminist, TELL ME NOW!!! I'd add Colombiana, Serenity and Guardians of the Galaxy to the list (yup, the bar is set pretty low).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing moments of my life was walking home over a bridge in Gothenburg together with a friend. Not cause it's such a spectacular thing, but because right at that moment I was exactly where I wanted to be. It felt true. I've done things that probably make better stories, but the most intense moments to me are when I feel fully concious and in rhythm with my mind.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm fairly good at various kinds of crafts. Painting, drawing, sewing, knitting, crocheting. And cooking vegan food! And I can gladly teach you my ugliest dance moves.

Desperatly trying to think of particular things I want to learn. Hm. I'd love to dare to sing really loud. Or dance in cool ways. Wood crafting. Want to learn more about people. Improving my languages and learnign new ones. Ah, just anything! I'm all ears!
