About Me

Hey, I DO NOT LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY. I live pretty far away from New York City, in fact, yet I get a lot of requests from people looking for hosts there. I don't get how that happens, but if you're looking for a NYC host, I can't help you.
Please include the phrase "Oh what a lovely day" in your request so I know you read my profile, or else I will reject you.

ABOUT ME

My name's Sam, my wife Jamie and I live in Upstate New York at the moment, and I love to travel and meet new people as much as possible. I like sightseeing, drinking beer, and having awesome food. My hobbies include making fun of bad movies, rock climbing, and reading.
I just moved back from Utrecht, Netherlands, where I finished my Master's degree. The bulk of my couch surfing was in Europe, from traveling while I lived there.

PHILOSOPHY

Fortune favors the bold.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to host when I can, but my schedule gets tight sometimes. Please include the phrase "Oh what a lovely day" in your request so I know you read my profile, or else I will reject you.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've crashed at plenty of people's houses. The weirdest one was going to Vilnius, Lithuania to visit a friend doing an internship there. She said I could stay at her uncle's house while I was there. Turns out the guy was an extremely well regarded university professor and former Voice of America to Lithuania during the cold war. He was a very interesting and sweet man. We had some pretty amazing conversations.

Interests

I am interested in beer breweries and brewpubs, especially small ones, rock climbing, UNESCO sights, beautiful churches and town halls and whatnot, experiencing local food, meeting new people, learning about other cultures, seeing beautiful works of art, etc.
Be warned: I am an obnoxiously avid Green Bay Packers fan (Go Pack Go!). If a game happens to be on, I may try to make you watch it with me. If I do, I will probably buy you beer and/or food to make up for it though.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music in general, but I'm not big on dubstep or EDM. My favorite movies include the Star Wars films, Indiana Jones, The Big Lebowski, Léon, and Bruce Lee movies. I really really loved the new Mad Max movie. I love to read. I'm a big fan of Tolkien, Philip K Dick, the Dune series, John Steinbeck, Khalil Gibran, and William Blake.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rafting on the Soča River.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you an amazing card trick to impress your friends.
I am a complete beer nerd. I used to host beer tastings at my old house in the US. I can teach you anything you want to know about beer, and help you put together an awesome tasting.
