Overview
About Me
I'm Sam, a first-generation NYC native and third-year college student (in the American South, no less - it's so different compared to NYC, and it's amazing) studying abroad in Denmark right now. I really enjoy new experiences - trying new foods, meeting new people, traveling to new countries - it's always amazing realizing the world is so much bigger than what I knew about it before.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To meet new people in new places! It's my first time traveling Europe, and after getting glowing recommendations about it from friends, I'm very excited to try it.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I like a lot of stuff, from electroswing (Here Come the Mummies, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) to classic jazz and whatnot, and my latest favorite artists are The National, Portugal. the Man, and Jonah Blacksmith.
Movies: The Dark Knight (2008), Her (2013) - they do amazing jobs of exploring deep themes, and ask questions that really make you think; I also really like Pitch Perfect (2013) - I think it's a movie that is simultaneously both thoroughly terrible and also a masterpiece - as well as Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011) - although I admittedly didn't like the ending that much.
TV Shows: Sherlock (from BBC), House of Cards (from Netflix), White Collar (from USA Network), Friends (from NBC).
Books: Orwell's 1984, Collins' Hunger Games series (I read the entire series for the first time after watching the first two movies, and came to love the books far more than the movies), and L'engle's Wrinkle in Time series (which I honestly should read again, because it's been years since the last time I read it), Webb's The Gods are Bastards, Maas' Queen of Glass (now Throne of Glass).
And because it really deserves mentioning: Andy Weir's "The Egg" - it's a fantastic short story, and I highly recommend you take 10 minutes out of your day to read it if you haven't before: http://www.galactanet.com/oneoff/theegg_mod.html.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In high school, I was on our robotics team, which participated in FRC, a competition where we built pretty big robots (like this one! http://flic.kr/p/dQTbQJ (I'm the second from the left) ) in six weeks to play against teams from around the world, and we made it to the international championships 3 of 4 times while I was on the team!
Teach, Learn, Share
Anything, really - start with a random word and see where we go from there! (If you want though, I always love talking about different education systems and cultures - it's fascinating learning how that of the US compares to other countries.)
What I Can Share with Hosts
I love talking about all kinds of things, from art and architecture to cuisine and culture to movies and music to politics and philosophy - it's always great learning about new things, and I love sharing my own experiences too.
