About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Well! I am on a three month trip through Peru, Bolivia and Brasil, a little volunteering and a little sightseeing but along the way i hope to meet and connect with people from those countries, share our culture and learn from each other.

ABOUT ME

Hello good people, as my profile reads my name's Samuel but call me Sam. I've been calling Brisbane my home for two years now. A bearded born again christian.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

While not personally, as a household with my brother and another friend we host couchsurfers whenever possible, share our city; going for bike rides around the river, showing off Brisbane's melting pot of great eateries and iconic locations.
Occasionally going to couchsurfing events

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I some incredible experiences couchsurfing, they have always been positive, the spectrum of people you meet and experiences that would not have happened otherwise. The most memorable that comes to mind is spending time with a guy in London who was incredibly generous and proud of his city, taking me on a night tour of famous buildings in his neighborhood and his favorite places to eat. It was such a pleasure to stay with him.

Interests

Photography/Instagram- where I go by the name @whiskersmagee, if you would like to view my modest gallery. I'm something of an avid gardener and because of this have recently become interested as well in permaculture. Hiking/tramping, it's how I like to remember a place- by climbing its peaks, exploring its lost and lonely places.
Of course for this trip, i have been learning Spanish! And through learning i have come to love the language and the people (especialmente los peruanos;) and I want to continue studying Spanish for the future

Music, Movies, and Books

Where does one even start? With books that's where! Kurt Vonnegut and Gabriel Garcia Marquez would have to be up there, John Steinbeck- classic literature. The Bible.
Music- alternative/triplej, couple of favorites would have to be Sigur Ros and Bon Iver.
Film- alt/indie and the great cinema classics. Citizen Kane to Lost in Translation, Scorsese and Tarantino. Got to love Studio Ghibli!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The last time I was in New Zealand earlier this year I solo climbed a mountain outside of Christchurch called Mt Grey, the entire time the mountain was shrouded in a thick blanket of cloud and there was a surreal moment on the top, lost in this dreamscape with no sound, to know you're the only person for miles and miles around.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love cooking and new food- I'm at the very least proficient, at the very best extraordinary!:p jaja I'd love to learn about your country's cuisine and where ingredients are available, share my own.
I'm always interested in new ways of thinking, new ideas. I'm (always) learning Spanish and if someone who is learning English would be fantastic to share our respective languages and help each other learn... I know how hard English can be!
