About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To enjoy life, improve myself and kindle happiness in others.

ABOUT ME

I like to make lists.I love science-fiction unapologetically.I am addicted to travel and podcasts.I refuse to use the imperial system for measurements (except miles).I can count to ten in nine languages.I am a wannabe minimalist.I love staring at maps.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to live my life with the principle that life is for living, not working (i.e. I work to live, I don't live to work). I don't want a career, just a job, and teaching English works well for me in that way.

I generally consider myself a thrifty person. Some might say cheap (though I would disagree) and I try to live in a way that does not do excessive harm to the planet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have hosted in the past, but I currently don't have a home so I'm mostly surfing and meeting up with CSers.

I only give references to people that I have surfed with, hosted, travelled or worked with for more than a couple of days. I don't use Couchsurfing references like Facebook's wall. I also generally only add people I know outside of couchsurfing as friends.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Alone, I have surfed with:
*Raymund & Rima in Linz, Austria (May and Sep 2010) and in Heidelberg, Germany (Dec 2011 and Apr 2012)

*Erkan in Selçuk, Turkey (Oct 2010)
*Simon in Lattakia, Syria (Nov 2010)
*Uli in Linz, Austria (several times between Feb 2011 and June 2012)

*Guiller in Gijón, Spain (May 2011)
*Mark in Santander, Spain (May 2011)
*Friedmar in Dresden, Germany (Apr 2012)

With my partner, Zab, I have surfed with:
*Caroline and Julien in Athens, Greece (Oct 2010)
*Alfonso in Valladolid, Spain (Apr 2011)
*Ana in Valdivia, Chile (Feb 2013)
*Juan Martín in Bahía Blanca, Argentina (Mar 2013)
*Mauro in Montevideo, Uruguay (Mar 2013)
*Ger in Córdoba, Argentina (May 2013)
*Fernando in Córdoba, Argentina (May 2013)

*Borut from Maribor, Slovenia (Oct 2012)
*Julia and Dawid from Wrocław, Poland (Nov 2012)

Interests

Which of these comes first varies from day to day, but the usual constants are (in no partiuclar order):podcasts, cooking, language geekery, equality, growing vegetables, trains, science-fiction, hyperbole, polyamory, astrophysics, maps.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A night sky filled with an arm of the Milky Way from Crete, Greece.

Two things I hope to be able to add here some day: a solar eclipse, and the Earth from space.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can speak French, German and Spanish conversationally, and have taught myself some Mandarin Chinese (though only spoken), so if you're a beginner I might be able to teach you something.

At university I studied linguistics, which, although it sounds like it, is not learning lots of languages; rather it is the scientific study of language as a natural phenomenon. I specialised in phonetics (the study of sounds in human language), and developed a particular interest in the many varieties of English around the world, so I know something about that and will eagerly share it with you if you're interested.

I like to cook and am always happy to share and learn new recipes. I also know a few chords on the guitar which I'm happy to pass on if that's your thing.
