About Me

Helllooooooo world!!!

I figure there must be something to this 'international experience' thing, because something in the deep, dark recesses of my grey matter decided to major in International Studies. My study abroad experience in Japan and further travels in Southeast Asia instilled an even greater, more fierce desire to see this wonderful world we live in and meet as many interesting folks as I can.

I've been in Europe for about six months, and most of that time was spent on a bicycle. I rode from the Netherlands all the way down to Croatia, and then spent a month in Bulgaria taking an English teaching course. It's been a long, strange trip, and I'm positive there's more to come!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This is the first year I've used Couchsurfing, but it's already clear that it's the best way to travel and meet new friends. There's just no substitute for hearing a host's life story, meeting their friends, and getting real insight into wherever you are. In fact, the only places that I've really made lasting friends on the road are those that I used Couchsurfing at.

I'm a believer in the CS revolution.

Interests

I'm big on bicycles (obviously) and meeting people who enjoy using pedal power to get around this crazy world. Taking in the beauty of the natural world is also something that's really important to me.

I've had a vested interest in keeping the beat on any and all surfaces that have come my way since I was a kid, so if you've got a bongo or, *gasp*, a drum kit, we're gonna boogie down all night long.

Also, I WANT TO TRY YOUR COUNTRY'S BEER! Please.
Yes, all of it.

Years of collecting records and scouring the internet for any vestige of interesting post-punk has turned me into a music geek as well. Got a thing for the Velvet Underground and the Jesus and Mary Chain? We're gonna get along just fine.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh you know, the usual: Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Orwell, Phillip K. Dick, Asimov, Dostoyevsky, Donnie Darko, Jackie Brown. Bonus points if you're into Japanese cinema.

Ask me and we can have a nice conversation about our wonderful tastes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Woke up one morning in Thailand before everyone else in the hostel and decided to take one road as far as possible on a rental scooter.

Ended up at a far-flung temple with almost no-one in sight as the sun was rising high into the sky.

The feeling of freedom I experienced that day has driven me to explore this world as much as humanly possible.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you need any help with your English you can also ask me anything! I was a teacher for a year in Japan, so I've got experience helping students of all ages.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good times, and definitely some bad ass breakfast. PREPARE YOUR KITCHEN!! I can also teach you a bit of Japanese if you're interested, so you can impress your friends and start planning your big Asia adventure!!
