About Me

About my travel

I travel by bicycle since 2017 August. Started from South Korea. Yes, that’s where I was born and raised. It’s been almost two years now so if I start to speak about my whole journey, you might get bored so give you a brief summary of my travel and why I’m sitting here it’s still a long story.
I’ve been through Russia, Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Armenia, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Greece, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy

Why?

I didn’t have any great reason at the first place. Just wanted to do long term travel. Not like 20 months but like 6 months. And something challenging, something seems not possible. It was my first idea.
Now, I keep traveling because I want to understand better. Want to understand who I am, who we are, where we are living.

Why bicycle?

The aspects of bicycle that made me to choose was minimal, freedom. It’s simple so don’t have to worry about fixing. It’s cheaper yet efficient, gives me a freedom to go wherever I want, whenever I want.

Details

I wasn’t a cyclist, didn’t even have a bicycle. Wasn’t a athlete or even close. There were few options for travel. Airplane, Car, Motorcycle(this is my other dream), Backpacking, on Foot or Bicycle. Back then, just wanted to travel to Europe. Then came up with those ideas. Plane: typical. Train: sounds romantic but actually boring. Car: pricy. On foot: didn’t even know it’s possible there are crazy people who doing this with cart. But even if I knew, it’s too slow. So Motorcycle, it was a realistic option for me then but I had to get the license, insurance and motorcycle. It was my long time dream. As a kid reading “The motorcycle diaries” by Che Guevara. Though I knew how to ride but all those things to do gave me potential headaches. And I used to have 20yrs old car and fixed all the time so I understood what it would be like to travel with the machine. Even, it was 6 months plan so nonsense to spend too much time and money. So I came up with bicycle. It looks similar not as cool as Motorcycle but at least it moves me.

Where I’m going?
Since my travel is way beyond my first plan even my imagination. I just don’t know. Where I will finish. For now heading to the west. For now, after Greece to Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina, croatia, slovenia, Italy to Sicily, Tunis and keep going to west. Not sure.

About me

I was born in 1992 South Korea. As a boy I had a lot of curiosity in my heart. Remember the first time I took a bus by myself at age 7. That feeling makes me keep traveling. The mixture of fear and excitement. There’s something I remember my mom used to say to me. “Try before you say you can’t” she must spoke to me a lot enough to engrave in my head. Back then I was probably smart enough to know that is not possible even before try. From then to now I’ve gradually got more stupidity to try before thinking. I’m a student in Korea. Even though last time I went to University was 4yrs ago I’m still calling myself a student. My first travel was when I was 22. Travel that I discover and face myself. It was in my military time. After I finished military service 21months. I decided to travel to India. With full of fantasy and misconceptions about India in my heart I traveled 3 months in India and nepal. Since I started travel, I realized there’s no absolute right. Travel was continuous procedures of breaking my fantasy and prejudice.

What’s my plan for future

Although I’ve been cycling now, I don’t want to limit myself as a cyclist nor a traveler. I want to be a storyteller. I believe a great story has a tremendous power. Still don’t know how to. But for now I’m making a story with my life. I want to change the world. Naive? Yes I’m naive and stupid enough to come up with content-crossing idea. So why not? And for me, you and I are pretty much the world. Let’s not say “they”. It’s another “you”. So if I can change you like people I met on the road changed me. That’s dream come true.

I love to cooking, baking. I’m traveling with rolling pin and black pepper mill. Explains? I understand culture by food.
