About Me

My name is Sara (without an H). I am a motion graphic designer and photographer, and a mother to two boys (6 & 2). I love exploring cities, and nature, and am enamored with, and by, adventure. I am pretty horrible about comma usage, so never mind that. I've really enjoyed meeting people from abroad through couch surfing when hosting my friends surfers, and would love to meet like-minded travelers, young, old, single, or families full of travelers. I've only been out of the country once, to Mexico when I was a young teenager.

I grew up in the state of Ohio, and have lived in Los Angeles, CA, Cleveland, Ohio, and currently reside in Fremont, CA (East Bay are of San Francisco). I have driven across the country once, and have traveled to a number of states and cities in the US including, Washington DC, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, West Virginia, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Arizona, Colorado, and more.

Some National Parks I've visited (and adored) are:
Death Valley, Sequoia & Kings Canyon, Joshua Tree, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon

Currently I hope to explore more of the Pacific Northwest, and all the National Parks I can get to.
As my kids get a little older I can't wait to explore more of the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's all about meeting like-minded people, sharing your experiences, and making new friends. Getting a locals perspective is priceless, especially when you're up for nearly anything. I just want to take it all in and introduce my children to the wonders of travel and let them know there are wonderful people in the world (and maybe remind myself of that too.)

Music, Movies, and Books

Brand New, Sunny Day Real Estate, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Moving Mountains, Jefferson Airplane, Robin Trower, Interpol, Manchester Orchestra, Keaton Henson, Radiohead, The Rapture, The Kills, Nirvana... and on and on and on

Anything French New Wave

Recently read a huge number of original Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson faery tales, concentrating mostly on the ones that have been made into Disney movies - I'm not one of those Disney people, but it's something I've always wanted to do, so I finally did it. I think it would be incredibly interesting to look at these originals from a modern day feminist point of view, and then compare them to the movies.

Fave Originals: The Little Mermaid (one of the most beautiful shorts I've EVER read) & Snow White

Though I've read my fair share of fiction, I've also been pretty into non-fiction lately.

Most recent read: Girls & Sex: Navigating the Complicated New Landscape - by Peggy Ornstein

Ultimate Faves: Albert Camus, Goethe, Dylan Thomas, Tolstoy (though I've only read his shorts)

Things I really should finish reading: The Second Sex - Simone de Beauvoir, more Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky... *sigh!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
