About Me

I'm a 31 year old newbie traveller currently embarking on a long term adventure with my boyfriend, Ben. Our plans, although subject to change, are to work in Australia for around 10 months to save up money to see as much of South East Asia as we possibly can.

I'm an outgoing, enthusiastic person who loves to meet new people and try new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting new people and hearing about their lives and experiences! This is a huge part of why I wanted to set out and travel the world.

Couchsurfing seems like a fantastic way of doing this while allowing me to meet people who actually live in the area I'm visiting. This is something I think is lacking from the hostel experience, where you tend to meet only other transients like yourself. I love to really immerse myself in a local area and see it more from a local's point of view.

I've also had so many friends recommend Couchsurfing to me and I've been blown away by their descriptions of the people that they've met and the experiences that they've had. I'm excited to start making these memories for myself!

Interests

- I'm a keen reader and, although I'll read any genre, I'm particularly fond of books in the fantasy genre (I know, I'm a nerd).
- I've done around 3 years of salsa and bachata dancing and I love a good social dance night. I've not done as much dancing in the past year or so, but it's something that I'd love to do more of in the future.
- Travel! We've only just started our travels but after two months in Thailand I've already got the bug. I've loved seeing new places, meeting new people and trying new things.
- Vegetarian cuisine - I've been a vegetarian for around 2 and a half years and I love learning new things to cook and sampling different veggie dishes.
- Animals and the natural world - I love animals of any kind and can generally be found trying to make friends with most cats or dogs that I pass on the street. It can make getting from place to place difficult sometimes!
- Gaming - I'm obviously sans console at the moment (they're a bit difficult to carry in a backpack) but I've always really enjoyed gaming. I mostly play RPG or other sandbox games but I was raised on platformers, so I'll pretty much play anything.
- Geocaching - If you don't know what it is...look it up :-) A great way to while away a few hours in most places.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - I have quite ecclectic music tastes! Here's a few of my favourites off the top of my head:
David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Bonobo, Fiona Apple, Bush, Postal Service, Third Eye Blind, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Bat for Lashes, The Cure, Ben Folds Five, James Taylor, The Beatles, Paul Simon, Amy Winehouse, Little Dragon, Girl Talk, Pulp, tUnE-yArDs, Van Morrison...(but I'll pretty much listen to anything)
Films - I love Pixar films when I'm indulging my inner child. I also love well acted comedies or dramas. I'm not a big fan of fratboy humour though!
Books - Too many to mention! Here are some that I've read recently and really enjoyed though: The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb, Memoirs of a Geisha by ‎Arthur Golden, The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Quitting my job, shedding my worldly possessions and buying a ticket out of the UK to travel the world. Easily the biggest risk I've ever taken, but with the greatest rewards.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach some basic salsa and bachata and I'm very willing to help anyone practice their English conversational skills, if they are not a native speaker.

I would love to learn more languages but it has always been something that I've found quite hard to pick up. As they say though, practice makes perfect, and I would be very interested in learning any language basics you could teach me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Conversation, basic salsa steps, book recommendations, good vegetarian cooking, an introduction to geocaching and of course my sparkling wit!

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States
