About Me

Hey there! My name's Sara. I'm 24 years old, I grew up in the United States, and I'd love to hang out and chat over a lovely plate of (local) food or drink :D

These past two years have been all about travel for me. I love how much insight and perspective it's allowed me to gain... on people, on culture, food* architecture, religion... you name it.

As far as an "about me" for non-travel-related things... what can I say! I love nature, the ocean, the world and everything in it. I have deep appreciations for the human psyche and for what fuels it: food =P. I'm a student of biology, the environment, and psychology, and often reflect on the interrelationship of these topics. Some things I love to do include swimming, hiking, cooking/baking, and yoga. I consider myself a devoted friend and am passionate about equality and respect. In order to get to know me better we'll just have to sit down over that drink or plate of (local) food!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I try as best I can to respect a local culture, and I think couchsurfing is a great way to be a responsible tourist. For all its negative connotations, I wish I weren't a tourist; however, I must admit that whenever I -- or anyone else for that matter -- leaves their home, they unequivocally become one, and must accept all the responsibilities thereof.

I also strongly believe in the ideology behind couchsurfing: of sharing cultures and forging unique connections. I think that as a solo traveler, couchsurfing is a fantastic way to make new friends that I hope to keep long after I'm off their couch :)

I really look forward to the day when I'm settled, have my own place, and can host some CSers myself!

Interests

I'm into responsible pursuits of agriculture and biotechnology, as well as world philosophies, religions, and politics (yes you can ask me about Trump :p ). I care a lot about nature and the environment, and I'm super into food. Seriously, if I'm going to a new city one of the main ways I'll explore it is through it's food.

Music, Movies, and Books

The music I listen to is constantly changing, but the artists I always come back to include Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, and James Blake. Favorite genres include folk, blues country, indie-electronic and pop.

My favorite movies and shows are too numerous to count! Miyazaki films, Rick and Morty, Children of Men, Wall-E, The Office...

^^Same goes for books. Ask me what I'm reading right now!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

All of my travels have been amazing, but one story I like to tell is the time I drove a scooter along a very narrow two-laned cliff-hugging road in a beautiful National Park in Taiwan. That was really fun!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: American recipes, as well as those I've picked up from along my travels :)

Share: friendship, cultural exchange, good company!
