About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Skip around the world one place at a time.

ABOUT ME

Ahh, how does one describe themselves in a paragraph? Hmm, well, Im pretty easy going, chill, like to have fun, and spend time around positive people. I go from the extremes of being a homebody who is quite content to lounge with a book, to desperately needing to book a trip to anywhere that catches my eye. Love to have a good debate with anyone, theres nothing like a little competition.

PHILOSOPHY

Life really is what you make it. I have no patience for all this "i hate my life," or "my life sucks." Bullshit. So much of your life is the culmination of the choices you make. Yes, bad things happen, and other people can do bad things. That sucks. All you can do is move forward. Surround yourself with people who make your life better, not those who bring you down. Make your life happen, then enjoy it as it comes.
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose." -Dr.Seuss

also, never forget, in those rough situations: This too shall pass.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Met up with Vito in Verona, Italy. He didn't have a couch available but took time out of his day to come and show us around his beautiful city, seeing places we never would have found on our own, nor would have been able to access without a car. Then we went out for a great evening of wine, more sights, and drove all the way out to Lake Garda that night. The next morning Vito came to pick us up at dawn to give us a ride to the train station. A really awesome guy, who helped us have a fantastic first couchsurfing experience.

Interests

Travel, Skiing/Snowboarding, Diving (now to figure out how to make that happen while living in the landlocked Canadian prairies), Soccer, Reading, Cooking, Writing, Video Editing (very amature), and in general, Living Life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

With an Irish grandmother, finally getting to go to the old country this year was absolutely stunning. Strangely enough, I really felt like i was home.

In the last 5 months (Apr/14), I have held a koala, 2 massive boa constrictors, and a baby monkey, fed a young leopard, patted several tigers, ridden an ostrich and a couple of elephants, and took a selfie with a kangaroo who pulled a duckface.
Update (May/15): Got another opportunity to visit my friend who lives and works with adolescent big cats in Thailand. Had a full on wrestling match with a teenaged male tiger, a lovely brat named Fluke. I still have a scar on my hand from that encounter. Also had rather a lot of hair ripped out by a young leopard who decided it would be a good chew toy, cats will be cats. Thrilling.

Strange food list - have eaten: snake, snails (not some lovely french escargots, river snails in laos in a spicy broth) ostrich, crocodile, shark, scorpion, kangaroo and emu (im sure there are others, working on remembering). Want to try: dog and horse (might cry myself to sleep after, but culinary curiosity makes me want to give it a go).

Best places on earth. Those places that strike a chord with you deep down. You look at the people, the landscape, the atmosphere, the food, the music, and at how you feel while you're there and find yourself thinking "I could stay here forever." -- Byron Bay, Australia. Santorini, Greece. Capri (swimming in the Blue Grotto), Italy. Pai, Koh Tao (got hooked on diving, damn it!), Tonsai, and Koh Phi Phi, Thailand. Koh Rong, Cambodia, All of Laos (but if I must be specific, 4000 Islands, Kong Lo (tranquil village, coolest cave ever), Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang). Hoi An & Mui Ne, Vietnam. El Nido on Palawan Island, Philippines, Fernie BC, Whistler BC & Lake of the Woods (also Kenora) ON, Canada.
An ever-evolving, ever growing list. What are your favourite places?
