About Me

I am half Malaysian and half Taiwanese. I was born in Singapore and lived there for 8 years. I moved to Shanghai where I started studying in a series of international schools from then. At the age of 14 I moved to Malaysia and graduated there doing a British curriculum. I am currently studying in University of Manchester, doing Biomedical Science. I also went on a semester exchange programme in Queensland, Australia, in 2014. I am a Chinese girl with a slight American accent due to the education I was given growing up.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love traveling like most people. And this is my first time in Europe ever since I moved to UK for uni. However I feel guilty for using my parents money to travel, and my waitressing job just doesn't pay enough. Accommodation takes up a lot of the costs when traveling. So I reckon couch surfing is the best way!

Interests

I enjoy my Science course, but my interests really lie in the arts - architecture, fashion, beauty, culinary arts. I guess I just don't have a foundation for it so I can't pursue it (Yet!). Hopefully traveling will be good inspiration. I also love basketball, it's my favorite sport to play and watch. I don't follow NBA, because I'm more into the actual playing than the watching. And one last final thing - I love musicals. So far I've watched a musical every year on my birthday the past 3 years. I love it. It brings you to another world. But this year I plan on spending it at Disney World!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like listening to R&B most of the time. When partying or working out I prefer house and EDM. I don't read that much anymore but so far my all time favorites are The Ruins, Gone Girl, The Hunger Games (in 2009 before it went mainstream), The Scorpion, and any Sophie Kinsella books. Favorite movies would be Pirates of the Carribean, The Hobbit, Hunger Games, Public Enemies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Depends on the definition of amazing. Amazing to society or for personal reasons? To society I think the one thing I'm proud of are the number of charity fashion shows I held back in high school. Another one is how I go out of my way to make people's birthdays very special. I realized it when I get super stressed over birthdays every time. But one thing I did for myself that was truly amazing was when I went on exchange in Australia and rented a campervan to drive down the East Coast. We were on this island called magnetic island, and everyone just wanted to chill at the beach and do absolutely nothing. So I went off by myself and did a hiking trail. I didn't really know where I was, I just walked wherever there was a path. The walk seemed to take forever and it felt endless. But eventually I reached this lookout called the Sphinx lookout, and I went up there, and the view took my breathe away. Nature is amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach Mandarin and English I guess, I'm fluent in both. I want to learn different cultures! Especially their way of thinking, their personalities, their beliefs, and FOOD!!!
