About Me
Hi,
I'm Sarah. I was born in Köln (Germany) and was 3 years old when my parents and I moved to Belgium. There I grew up, went to school and met my husband. In the last year of my studies, I did some volunteering work at schools in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Once back home, I started living together with my now-husband, got a wonderful job teaching second grade to kids from all over the world. Then the opportunity came for my husband to move to the States for work. So we got married and moved here. In Belgium we lived in the great city of Ghent, where meeting openminded, interesting people isn't hard. Here I miss the open vibe, the social contacts, the interesting conversations.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My husband and I were asked to a couchsurfing event by a good friend and we absolutely loved it. In the time we've lived here, we've hosted for friends and family, so I figured 'why not broaden our view?'.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I'm very openminded in terms of genres (long live Spotify ), only some explicid (sexual, violent or racist) music doesn't suit me.
Movies: Same as my music. Sometimes you need movies that make you feel, sometimes you need movies that turn off your brains. I'm a sucker for Netflix btw. Bingewatching, been there, done that. But I'm good if your not the tv-watching kind.
Books: I used to spend complete vacations buried in books. Having had a job and having a household did reduce that, but I try to make the time. My favorites: the Harry Potter books. I could -and think I still can - lose myself completely in that magical world. Besides that I like Ken Follett - I learned more about history in his books, than in school -, George Orwell - cried while reading 1984, all three times -, and lately George R R Martin with his Game Of Thrones.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Not the time to be humble, I guess.
I'm most proud of my time in Bolivia, I think. Making a difference (or at least thinking that) is really satisfying. I was proud of my independence, being away from home for the first time (for a long period of time) . And my teaching job in Belgium, same reason (making a difference) , even though it drained me of my energy.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would be happy to cook some Belgian food for guests. And you have trouble with elementary school math, I can definitly help with that ;-)
But seriously, I teach Dutch. So if you want to add a language to your list, I can help with that.
