About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Shake up my routine and expand my comfort zone. Connect with people I wouldn't normally meet. Learn new jokes.

ABOUT ME

I'm a recent graduate of a classical acting training program, now making my living acting and doing a variety of weird other jobs (including working in a brewery, being a pretend patient for med school students and putting on puppet shows about epilepsy for kindergarten students). I've worked a fair bit getting kids involved in the arts, which is something I'm passionate about. I get excited about reading, biking, history, cooking, live music, traveling, impromptu parties, rational discourse and the song "Starships" by Nicki Minaj. I'm generally a yes person and will jump at the chance to try something new.

PHILOSOPHY

People should do what they need to make themselves happy (except at the expense of someone else's happiness). No sing-along is complete without the song Wagon Wheel.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love couch surfing because I love connecting with people from all over the world and getting the chance to have real experiences beyond just being a tourist. I love Alberta and would be delighted to show people around. Having grown up in Edmonton, I have a pretty good handle on the hidden gems of this area.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies/TV Shows: One Week, Shakespeare In Love, The Wire, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Downton Abbey, Chopped.

Music: folk music, old-timey Jazz, indie rock, musicals, top 40s

Books: Blindness by José Saramago, The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer, Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been on several 10-day long sailing adventures on the outside edge of Vancouver Island on a tall ship (the Pacific Grace), where I've watched whales light up the water beside the ship in the middle of the night. I would love to do more sailing, but am currently having a bit of a struggle finding a boat in the middle of the prairies roughly 1000km from any ocean.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I can talk all night about Shakespeare, I'm a very patient cook and I can sew buttons back onto clothes. I'm also trained in fencing and rapier and dagger (for the stage), so if you have a foil I can teach you the basic moves.

Learn: Interested in learning really any new skill. I especially love practicing languages (French, German or Spanish) and am really keen to learn Arabic. Local history fascinates me. I wish that I had better mechanical skills and like to learn how to operate machinery.

Share: I will always always share music and dance. I love to share food and drinks. Most of all I adore sharing stories. An event that lets me do all these things is a perfect thing.
