About Me

Hi! I'm Sarah!

My friends would describe me as friendly, adventurous, down to earth, spontaneous (yet also good at planning), outgoing (they don't believe me when I tell them I'm an introvert), crazy (in a good way), a foodie, and I have been told I'm funny/witty. I try and live as authentically as possible and I believe in the truth even if it hurts. I love to go out exploring, whether its a city or the great outdoors! I am always down for an adventure and a fun night out, but I also always appreciate a low key night with friends, new and old, and especially deep and meaningful conversation!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe in getting to know the people in the places one visits and be a traveler, not just a tourist. A tourist only sees a place, caught up in tours, the simple sightseeing, and in visiting a place in the way one visits an aquarium - not really in the world they are observing and thus unable to really know and understand it. A traveler experiences a place and really gets to know it by making real connections with the people who live there and make the place what it is. It’s a much greater adventure! To me, to travel means to share experiences, histories, ideas, cultural understanding and more. I appreciate Couchsurfing as a great way to meet amazing people all over the world. Whether it’s the simple hospitality of welcoming a traveler into one's home and giving some small insights into the life of the city as locals see it or a super involved host who becomes a guide and brief companion on the traveler's journey, I believe both make trips much more memorable and impactful than simply staying in a hostel or Airbnb/hotel. Though I am mostly a surfer due to my current residence, I look forward to being able to repay the generosity shown to me and host when I can!

Interests

I love traveling obviously, also coffee, craft beer, trying new activities, and anything outdoors! I love learning in general and I'm a huge fan of random fun facts. I am really interested in photography but I've just gotten my first DSLR so if you're a photographer I always appreciate tips and tricks! I also am really interested in learning languages! I am currently learning Italian, which I was able to use a bit during a study abroad program in Rome and through WWOOFing. I've dabbled in Hindi and Bengali while doing a research project in India but I've forgotten most of it now, definitely plan to go back to it as India has my heart! One of my goals is to be fluent in 5 languages by 30 years old!
