About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Kicking back in the country!

ABOUT US - Sarah + Max + Baby + Dog

Once there was a girl, faced with a choice- go to University and pay to do what she'd been doing all her life- go to school- or to stay home and work, so that she could later pay to go to school. Daunted by these formidable choices, she spent a sleepless night with her game console of choice, nachos, ice cream, fluffy slippers, several dvds and a dog. As the sun intruded on her basement idyll, she had a sudden epiphany- "Heck, I don't want to do all that!" And, inspired by her sudden inpiration, she set off and bought plane tickets to Europe, effectivly running away in elaborate style.

She then discovered several like minded fellows and a midget, who joined her on her adventres. (This is a true story). It was from this collection of misfits, gypsy's and 'creative people' that the Canadian Invasion was born, and our ragtag group scattered and converged across Europe, finally breaking apart back to Canada, Europe and New Zealand, respectively.

I have since met and managed to lasso the Dutch man of my dreams, who has been my travelling companion on many fine adventures since early 2011. He and I are foolishly in love and doing a decent job of playing house together with our little addition - born April 2017 - back home on the family ranch in 150 Mile House, BC. We added a furry friend to the family in July 2015, so if you're afraid of dogs or allergic you should know that! She's friendly but knows she's not allowed to jump on people, but if you get down to her level she'll crawl on your lap. She loves to cuddle. No one told her dog's aren't supposed to like it, apparently!

PHILOSOPHY

I adhere to the belief that life should be, and every now and then is, a musical. Including wacky costumes and two-dimensional villains who later 'change their tune'.
I believe that every day is a once in a lifetime experience, so I want to make the most of it!
I think that life is a series of short adventures and your next one is just around the corner. So go ahead, take a step, peer around!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing couches! We've done a fair amount of surfing now, and have yet to be dissapointed!
Also, shockingly, a fair amount of people seem to want to surf in Williams Lake. Who knew? So I've had the joy of adventuring vicariously through others as well!

Also operating a recruiting agency for possible participants in the Canadian Invasion.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Ahhh CS. It's anything but boring.
Mostly fantastic, occasionally life changing, occasionally life saving, and definitely the only way to go. Ok, well, the best way.

Interests

Max & I are well intentioned, ambitious, but nerdy young people. We're perpetually interested in new things- learning to slackline and Max just mastered riding a unicicyle (its the dratted Dutch blood, I tell you!) and we like to bike; horseback ride, hike and walk. We're very interested in the world in general, it's people and cultures and interesting facts and politics. We love a good conversation. But, while we have the best of intentions when it comes to getting out and being involved in everything and discovering all sorts of cool new skills, we do spend a lot of time snuggled up at home on the computer and watching movies.

Music, Movies, and Books

Sarah: Most people don't seem to have a big problem with this box, but this definitely caused me the most lip chewing. My problem is that, being such a huge movie, music and book buff, I have too many loves to choose from, and its hella hard to try and express my overwhelming love for books in cyberspace. But I know that finding one of my favourite books or movies on someone else's profile makes me want to meet them, so I'll do what I can.
Movies: Moulin Rouge, Fight Club, The Fall, Across the Universe, Stardust, Iron Man, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Wall-E, Legally Blonde, In Brugge, Sin City, Princess Bride, Dark Knight, Tristan & Isolde, Down With Love, aaaand Tim Burton and Hayao Miyazaki, who are not movies but go here nonetheless.
I fully expect to love American History X, and Pulp Fiction, but I have yet to watch them.

Music: Alright, I know alot less about music than Movies or Books. I also have this thing where I know all the lyrics or can hum you the tune but I don't know who sings/performs it or what it's called. Its a problem. It's pretty safe to say I like everything, because it's very rare for me to find music I really dislike. I'm a fan of traditional music in most cases- ie, Celtic, Fado, etc. At home I mostly listen to Country and Alt.

Books: This is actually the most difficult part. I've read thousands of books. (Not exaggerating.) Picking favourites is hard, and I can't do it by author, either, I just can't. So. A few I really love-

The Kingkiller chronicles- Patrick Rothfuss
The Dresden Files- Jim Butcher
The Fionavar Tapestries- Guy Gavriel Kay
White Oleander- Janet Fitch
The Omnivore's Dilema- Michael Pollen
Female Chauvinist Pigs- Ariel Levy
The Hobbit- You Know Who (I should hope.)
Watership Down- Richard Adams
The Duncton Moles- William Horwood
Zorro- Isabel Allende

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ive slept next to a bear :P I learned how to gargle Fakkelgras. Ive watched the sun rise in three separate continents.
Ive seen a lot of amazing things, and had my breath stolen on many an occasion. I would like to share these memories in person; perhaps then I can paint a vivid picture for you. (Metaphorically speaking. Im shit at painting.)

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I can teach you how to make a bovine mating call and how to skin a squirrel. I can make a mean hot chocolate and have a witty comment for any occasion. I can teach you to say bad words in Chilcotin, and would like to trade them for similar words in any language you might have picked up. Especially Russian. I believe everyone should know how to swear in Russian.
I'd like to learn how to make soap and do Yoga. I'd like to learn how to do a tea ceremony and make cheese. I'd like to learn to appreciate wine and to ride a camel & an ostritch. I'd like to learn how to hedgetrim and how to make art from tea bags. I'd like to learn how to make fudge and have a clam bake. I'd like to take dance classes and invent a cure for the common cold. I'd like to be chess champion of the Universe as well as the official ping pong champion. I'd also like to be the Patron saint of ladybugs and the Goddess of snow.
