À propos de moi
CURRENT MISSION
Plan less. Meditate more. Follow intuition.
ABOUT ME
I'm easy going. I love seeing new places. I think the best thing about travelling is the people you meet and hearing their life stories.
I'm pretty good at remembering my dreams - and I have some bizarre ones!
I go by Nell, which comes from my middle name. Don't worry, it's not an evil secret identity like Jekyll and Hyde or anything :)
PHILOSOPHY
I'm generally optimistic and like to see the best in people.
I like yoga, meditation and Buddhist philosophies.
I believe in a very simple version of karma, the kind where if you cook for someone, one day, not necessarily that particular night but sometime, someone else might do your dishes...
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
If you'd ever consider the trek to Australia I'd love to show you around my part of the world. I have had so many amazing hosts on my travels in 2013, I have lots of couchsurfing karma to pay back!
If you want a guide to Newcastle I've written a 3 day itinerary highlighting the best spots, designed to be done on foot or bicycle but adaptable to any mode of transport (except perhaps helicopter or submarine ).
It's called "Two Wheels and a Pair of Cozzies" and is available on Unanchor.com for about $8. But if you end up staying I'll just tell you what I recommend :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
In my travels through Europe, the UK and Japan I was continually reminded of how lovely, funny and generous people can be...
In Australia I've unofficially hosted a few times - I enjoyed having the extra housemates for awhile. I've also officially hosted while sharehousing, but now have my own place which makes hosting a bit easier when I have the time.
Centres d'intérêt
I love yoga and swimming.
I like to stay healthy but am not averse to treats!
Reading: classics, contemporary fiction, and when I want some escapism, crime fiction or anything at all really!
I enjoy bushwalks, picnics, pot luck dinners and beach hangs.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
Books: I like non-realist fiction like the works of Haruki Murakami, Banana Yoshimoto, Gene Wolf, Linn Ullmann, and Jeanette Winterson. Definitely enjoy the classics: James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Franz Kafka, Albert Camus, Salman Rushdie, J.D. Salinger. I also really like murder mysteries.
Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Fight Club, Me and You and Everyone We Know, clever crime films like Oceans 11 and Lock Stock, anything by Wes Anderson.
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
...or read:
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
('Little Gidding' by T.S. Eliot)
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
At risk of sounding like an absolute bore I'll admit I've done heaps of English grammar and linguistics subjects and can consequently teach you the correct use of apostrophes and semi-colons... If you want!!!
I'm grateful so many people speak English as I didn't get the chance to learn French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Turkish or Greek before I left Australia! I've learnt a little bit of Japanese.
Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes
Please let me know if there's anything in particular I can bring by way of food/fruit/chocolate or whatever else might be your treat of choice!
