ABOUT ME

I love to experience new places and people. I especially value the experience that comes from spending a significant amount of time somewhere new. I've been fortunate enough to have the chance to live in both Germany and South Korea, and I'm planning to live abroad again after I finish graduate school. In general I'm fascinated by language, the English language and any others I've had the chance to learn about, and that's how I've ended up as an ESL teacher. Outside of my interests in language and culture, I also love to cook, read, shop for used clothing, and much more.

PHILOSOPHY

I really believe that life, at least my life, requires balance. I strive to find a balance between time to myself and time with other people, time spent being lighthearted and time thinking about bigger issues, and much much more.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't been active with CouchSurfing for a bit, but I would really like to get involved again. Minneapolis is beautiful for the summer, and I would love to meet up with visitors and possibly open my doors and two couches to them!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couch surfed a few times in the past mostly within major cities in the US. When I lived in Madison, Wisconsin, my former roommates and I also hosted a number of couch surfers during the summers. I can honestly say that I had truly great experiences with everyone, whether staying or hosting.

Músicas, Filmes e Livros

I'm excited to have more time for reading now that I've got a break from grad school. I'm reading The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao right now, which is really great so far. As for music, I like a lot of different types, from the totally mainstream to the fairly obscure. Live music is especially great, but I also love random mixes, themed playlists, and whatever else. There's not much that I wouldn't be open to giving a listen. I don't watch too many movies, but I did recently finally get around to watching The Graduate, which was really great.

1. Finally arriving in El Nido, Palawan in the Philippines, with its dozens of limestone cliffs and island beaches, after seven hours on a hot, smelly, crowded bus with no AC but plenty of smoking.
2. Climbing Seoraksan in South Korea and getting to the top near sunset on the perfect fall day (climbing down as it was getting dark was a bit less beautiful but still an interesting experience).
3. Being able to watch Germany play Turkey for the semi-finals of the 2008 euro cup at a huge public viewing in Bonn. It was amazing to see people really come together and celebrate after.
