About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Spend enough time in Europe so they won't let me donate blood anymore. ;-)

ABOUT ME

I'm a hopeless Anglophile and would spend most of my time traveling around the UK if it weren't for annoying things like having a job and paying rent.

I have a good sense of humor and try to see things as adventures, rather than inconveniences (I'm not always very good at it, but I try.)

I'm an introvert and not very observant, about myself or about other people. I like being in small towns - I've decided that I don't like living in big cities.

I can't digest lactose at all. This is a considerable annoyance, both to myself and anyone who tries to feed me.

PHILOSOPHY

The best way to travel is to stay with people you know, even if you don't know them yet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with some lovely people for a few nights during my second to last trip to the England. It was a great time and I will definitely be couchsurfing again.

Interests

Reading, knitting, cooking, camping/hiking/skiing/swiming/etc., traveling, the landscape of Britain. I like being outside. I like the sun, but on occasion a cloudy rainy day is perfectly wonderful. Thunderstorms and lightning are awesome.

My idea of a perfect afternoon is curling up in front of a fireplace with a cup of tea and a good book.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love British literature! My favorite author is C.S. Lewis, closely followed by Tolkien and G.K. Chesterton. I like poetry, including dabbling in writing some of my own. Movies - I like period pieces, especially set in Britain. I don't like horror, but I do like mystery and crime detective type TV shows.

My tastes in TV are fairly British and geeky, especially where they intersect, such as Doctor Who. I also like period shows (such as Downton Abbey), and literary adaptations (Bleak House, Jane Eyre, Brideshead Revisited (the old one), Jane Austen novels etc.), panel shows (QI, Would I Lie to You?) mystery shows (Endeavour, Inspector Lewis, Sherlock, Broadchurch, etc), and even a few American TV shows (Stranget Things, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Firefly... okay, three, and one of them is canceled).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw the total solar eclipse in Missouri this past summer. Stunning!
