Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To travel the world playing music and telling stories, and host those doing the same
ABOUT ME
I'm a Jewish punk rock geeky washboard-playing blues-dancing writer who loves to meet interesting people and hear their stories.
PHILOSOPHY
Explanations should be like bathing suits: they reveal everything by covering only what is necessary.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have always made my home open to those that needed it, whether it's a local friend just needing somewhere to stay, an online acquaintance traveling through my town, or a touring band in need of a place to crash.
I'd like to travel more than I do (next stop: the UK), and I feel that visiting any place, no matter how distant or how close, is vastly enriched by interacting with the people who live there. Hotels are a bore.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've only hosted a few people from this site, but I've had a great experience each time. I usually host friends or friends-of-friends.
Interests
Music: Listening, playing (mandolin, washboard), and writing (I do freelance music reviews, musician interviews, and concert previews).
I also write fiction, often with a fantasy bent and usually set in cities, amongst young people, musicians, co-ops, and travelers.
I love roller derby, rock shows, karaoke, blues dancing, and farmer's markets. I know where to find the best of all of them.

Music, Movies, and Books
I listen to a lot of music: folk, punk, blues, rock, country, jazz, this and that. I love gypsy punk and skiffle folk. I love British musichall songs from the turn of the century. I like creative blends of old and new.
I love movies, ranging from The Thin Man to The Princess Bride, from Goonies to Brick, from Le Cite Des Enfants Perdus to The History Boys. The two movies I have seen the most times in the theater are The Brothers Bloom and Iron Man.
My top six books of all time are Pride & Prejudice, The Hobbit, The Outsiders, Le Petit Prince, War For the Oaks (Emma Bull) and Blankets (Craig Thompson). I read a lot of urban fantasy and scifi, particularly Neil Gaiman, Charles De Lint, Jane Lindskold, Will Shetterly, and Emma Bull. I confess a weakness for trashy romance novels.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I ran into the Mediterranean fully clothed at 5am after leaving an all-night techno concert in Tel Aviv.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: How to play washboard, how to do a Tim Tam Slam, the words to various amusing folk songs.
Learn: More amusing folk songs.
