About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make some stories worth telling.

ABOUT ME

Grew up in Toledo, OH and didn't really get out until college, so I'm getting out a lot of repressed travels right now. Spent four years near Chicago going to Northwestern University, then cut loose and went to Durango, CO for Americorps trailwork, then to Breckenridge, CO as a graphic design intern/ski bum. Rode 109 days that season, met some great people, and almost didn't leave. But I had talked a lot of game about doing a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, so at the end of the season I went straight to Springer Mtn, Georgia. Started April 20 and finished Sept. 14, 2014. Endless stories there, met some of the weirdest goons I'll ever know, and can't wait to do another one.

Spent a few weeks being a hobo in Maine and seeing everyone as they finished the Trail, then made my way home with as many pit stops as possible. Now I'm looking to head west - probably just one more season on the slopes, then the coast next summer. I've got a lot of friends already knee-deep in careers, but I'm hoping to move around and do some cool stuff before we get into all that business!

PHILOSOPHY

Whatever goes!

Spent last winter living in a storage unit facility apartment where my landlord rented all the other beds weekly and came home to a total of 55 different roommates over the season. Spent the summer hiking the trail which involved a lot of hitching, getting offered a place to crash or a warm meal in strangers' homes, some recreational homelessness at the end. Nothing really weirds me out. Don't tell mom.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

They didn't house us in Durango in Americorps, and being homeless was a lot of fun in the summer...not so much by November. Couchsurf people saved my butt and I'm still in contact with a few of them.

Interests

Running, biking, snowboarding, stand-up comedy (Mulaney, Birbiglia, Louis CK, old Gaffigan, many more), and honestly usually just hanging out, watching some TV, screwing around with the friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I've seen 35 movies and 28 of them are Happy Gilmore.
Music: I like everything from the 70s and everything from the 90s and I hate the 80s.
Books: Favorite might be The Know-It-All by AJ Jacobs. Favorite writer is Dave Barry. I tend more towards non-fiction.
