ABOUT ME

Just moved back to Ohio after living and teaching in Bulgaria for two years. I grew up in small town Ohio, and I dearly love all things green and wild. I firmly believe in the oxford comma!

PHILOSOPHY

While gingerly stepping over icy puddles in the streets of Tallinn recently, I accidentally landed in a deep one and thought to myself, in perfect imitation of the ghost of the Holy Grail knight from the third installment of the Indiana Jones movies, "You chose...poorly". It hit me, immediately, that this is pretty much how my mind sums up life: I'm faced with constant choices, and I never really know which is a poor or wise choice til I reap the consequences. Nevertheless, I must keep trying to parse through life and pick my way along my path with as much wisdom and insight as I can muster, and with a smile. So, there it is. My life philosophy is a mediocre yet classic bit of screenplay from Indiana Jones.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only couch surfed a few times so far, with new friends in Bulgaria and wonderful hosts in Norway, Estonia, and Sweden. I'm always willing to host and hope to meet more people and see new cities through couch surfing.

I love the art of storytelling, folklore, music, and narratives in general. These are the things that keep me traveling and keen to meet new people. Ultimate frisbee is my one true love, and I always have a disc stowed in my pack to toss! Hiking, bluegrass, spoons, these things make me happy.

Singing Bohemian Rhapsody in karaoke clubs, needlepoint, cheese... these thigns make me happy, too.

The Old Man and the Sea, Bright Shiny Morning, Wide Sargasso Sea, People of the Whale, White Teeth. My favorite book is a retelling of the Norwegian tale East O' the Sun, West O' the Moon, called East.

I tend to be drawn toward roots music, bluegrass, Americana, and Indie- Ha Ha Tonka, Local Natives, The Head and The Heart, Dan Tyminsky, IIIrd Tyme Out, Ricky Scaggs.

I like to cross stitch fun quotes or song lyrics, and I'd love to share this simple, fun way of displaying my favorite words.

I'm always up for sharing some of the new Bulgarian recipes I've learned, too. Shopska salad, anyone?
