About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To scout out all the countries on this green earth and prepare for the coming alien invasion.

ABOUT ME

I'm a HUGE nerd. Recent graduate of the University of Michigan, now working as an abroad advisor for the same. Last year I chaperoned a group of UM undergrads during an intensive language semester in Spain. I really enjoy travel, especially the human element, but sometimes it's hard to find ways to interact with locals when you're hanging out with large groups of students from your own country, so I joined couchsurfing to help me find others who felt similarly!

I still travel for work sometimes, though not with students. I'd like to use vacation time to explore more independently.

PHILOSOPHY

I think most people are fundamentally good, once you get to know them. I don't believe in dystopias, or that technology separates us instead of bringing us together - look at what this website does!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed before, and may be able to host, if I get the roommates' permission.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed in Paris, which was a great experience all around. It helped me get the actual local perspective instead of just seeing all the tourist hotspots, and it was a really welcoming environment.

Interests

I like exploring old cities and learning the history behind them, especially if I get to sit in a café and have something sweet afterwards. I'm a very big fan of science fiction, especially Star Trek (my favorite is DS9). I'm a fandom kid who loves fiction in general, and like to write in my spare time. Talk to me about your favorite characters in TV, books, or movies and I'll be happy for hours. I've also started to read comics (Jem and the Holograms, Rocket Raccoon, Captain Marvel). I am passionate about social justice and human rights. I go running sometimes, when I can get up the motivation, and I'm trying to learn to cook some Spanish recipes, no matter how bad I am at it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am not personally religious, but most of my favorite books have religious themes (East of Eden, The Brothers Karamazov, Good Omens). Another thing these books all have in common: dark plots with optimistic endings despite all odds. I'm quite obsessed with Discworld, and I've also recently read 2666 by Roberto Bolaño. It took me awhile to warm up to it, but now I recommend it to everybody.

I LOVE Marvel movies, and superheroes in general. I also really enjoy Disney and Dreamworks movies - ESPECIALLY How To Train Your Dragon and Rise of the Guardians.

The music I like varies from pop to newgrass to ambient techno to sad indie ladies. Florence + The Machine, Cake Bake Betty, Pendulum, Emancipator, Bastille, and Ellie Goulding are some all-time faves.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've read the Brothers Grimm fairy tales and could tell you some from memory. I also know a bit about astronomy. I want to learn to cook (but be warned that I am HORRIBLE at it), and wouldn't mind trying to learn to knit (again).
