About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet people, soak up nature, hopefully make a difference.

ABOUT ME

Twenty-something hispanophile (whose Spanish currently still sucks) with an affinity for cats, terrible puns, history, good food and understanding the world.

PHILOSOPHY

I live to learn, understand, explore, experience, connect, and hopefully use all this to give back and make a difference, even if it's just to a few people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hopefully by travelling, hosting and showing people around :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't had any experiences with the Couchsurfing organisation proper, however I am also a member of SERVAS, a similar organisation. I have travelled with SERVAS to Northern Germany, but mostly my family and I have been hosts to lots of people from all over Europe and the US, an experience I have enjoyed immensely - talking to so many different people and hearing so many different and inspiring life stories. Among others, we have hosted artists, teachers and people working in international relations who have travelled and lived all over the planet; hopefully when I'm 60 I can say the same of myself :)

Interests

I have a wide variety of interests, so we probably won't have trouble finding a topic to talk about:

Food, cooking and baking -
I'm an adventurous foodie who is always eager to try new dishes and techniques, I'm happy to bake and cook with you and for you or just chat extensively about food.

Movies, especially non-Hollywood movies -
Beside loving to watch good movies, I have a (sadly sleeping) interest in film making.

Leftist politics, Anarchism, Social Issues, Feminism, World Politics, Peace Building -
because the current system doesn't seem very sustainable and fair to me, so it's time to work for change. In my studies, I try to focus on issues of intercultural learning, postcolonial issues, nationalism and identity; I have worked with refugees, am currently working with international students, and am working with an NGO in peace building through history education.

Watching Sports -
Am am avid Football fan (not the American kind: I follow Liverpool FC and Valencia CF and the Spanish NT), also enjoy Figure Skating and Cricket, though I am useless at playing either.

Alpine hiking/Trail hiking -
Heidi should be my middle name. Have done Alps (Wallis, Appenzellerland, Königssee... among many others), Sweden, Camino de Santiago, eager to add more.

[Bollywood] dance -
Am really bad at it but like to bust a move, and watch the odd movie too if I'm in the mood :D

History -
Am a giant history nerd, especially interested in the Mediterranean Region from Middle Ages - 21st Century

Astronomy -
Love going to planetariums and observatories, taking classes and reading up on neutron stars and stuff in my free time.

Internet memes -
because cats rule the world?
