About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to see as much of the world, to try as many new things, and laugh as much as possible.

ABOUT ME

I'm 22, pretty tall, and have crazy curly brown hair. I like to think my hair suits my personality well. The bars call my name at night, but I'm perfectly content curling up with hot chocolate and reading a book or popping in a noteworthy film or documentary. I am a very open-minded, passionate, sensitive girl with a quirky sense of humor. I love to encourage laughter and hope others are the same way. Smiling is something I do pretty frequently. I'm pro-green, organics, gay rights, etc.! I'm a tame liberal. I love to travel and experience new things! It's my dream to travel and have as many cultural experiences as possible. I love dogs. Particularly BIG dogs. My family is wonderful and I love them.

I'm finishing up my last year as a student! Spending a year in NYC after graduation and hopefully end up living there for much longer. I'm extremely passionate about Detroit and I am in love with the city's history! I have a boat load of photographs of the city and am so lucky to have shared many of my Detroit trips and research with my grandmother.

I'm really friendly, outgoing, and would love to show visitors around Richmond! I fall more deeply in love with RVA each day. I am a walking and talking restaurant/entertainment guide book. I'm so eager to share my love of Richmond with others.

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy on life... never shut any doors, don't build walls/burn bridges, take away something positive from everything, keep learning new things, engage in as many enlightening/passionate/charged/sincere conversations as possible, travel the world, see as much as my eyes can take in and as much as my heart can hold, and to always be myself.

"Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood." - Daniel Burnham

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted train hoppers and cross-country cyclists in the past. men and women. I love hearing about the travels of my guests. Each person I've encountered has impacted or inspired me for the better.
About to experience my first surf in Philly in about a week! SO anxious!! I'm sure I will couchsurf many times afterward!

Interests

I dabble in black and white film photography. People, architecture, urban settings, and ugly/beautiful are subject matters I enjoy most.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Experienced Detroit inside and out.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an urban studies and planning student. I LOVE talking about the revitalization of cities. Currently reading Jane Jacobs's The Death and Life of Great American Cities and loving it so far. I do a tremendous amount of research and field work in/on Detroit/Highland Park/Hamtramck. I would love to talk/share what I know about why cities fail, succeed, and everything in between. I have a special fondness for historic buildings as well.

I'm very good at peeing in Richmond alleys for what it's worth.

I can teach others how to load, shoot, develop B&W film! I'd love to go on a camera/photo capturing outing!

I can teach you how to make $1 million dollars in 1 year. Yeah, I wish.

I can help others learn how to float down the Hollywood Rapids in the James River! It's really fun! I learned from a homeless man, actually. Have to make sure the water level is alright. Best summer afternoon by far.

Please teach me how to dougie.

I know a little about public transportation, but would like to learn more about public and mass transit.

Always eager to learn more about the environment, sustainability, and how to be more green than I already am.

I would love to learn more about the workings of politics. I am fascinated by the vast differences between America and Europe as far as social and political structures go.

I think I should learn how to knit as well. Not sure I have the patience, though.

Tap dancing! I fell in love with Gene Kelly in Singing in the Rain and I would love to learn how to tap! Or dance at all.

I would love to learn how to cook! spaghetti, rice, pb&j, and eggs are starting to get boring no matter what i do to try and spice them up.
