My two main past times are travelling and eating. I enjoy experiencing new places and cultures and I believe one of the best ways to do that is through food - I don't do well with the packet noodle style of travelling.
I also have a real passion for animals. I've done a lot of volunteering overseas in conservation work and at home working with shelter dogs. I spent the last few years working as a public servant behind a desk and it sapped my soul so I'm currently taking a mid-life crisis gap year travelling and working in Canada for the next 2 years.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Ive always wanted to host couchsurfers but unfortunately never been in the position to do so. I decided to sign up to couch surfing while I'm travelling for the next 2 years to meet new people and gain some new and interesting experiences along the way. I prefer to experience places the way the locals do rather than as a tourist and I've done a few housesits during my travels but it can get lonely. Hopefully when I return to Australia I'll be able to repay the favour as a host because I find you learn so much exploring your own city with new people.

Interests

I quite enjoy cooking and its something I really miss while I'm travelling because I'm always eating out. Speaking of eating out, as an Australian 'brunch' is a beloved past time of mine and I'm always willing to meet up for some avo toast (clearly not buying a house anytime soon 😜). I'm not super cultured but I do love going to the theatre, particularly musical theatre and have spent way too much money seeing shows on the West End and Broadway.

I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, long moonlit walks on the beach (with a dog preferably, none of that romantic bullshit). I love going for a run to see a new place but I'm not super fit, I stop a lot to take photos.

Music, Movies, and Books

I've never been good with this. I like too many movies and songs to list. Depending on the mood I'm in I love a good thriller/horror (one that makes you think and isn't just about blood and gore) and action comedies like Deadpool or anything with Ryan Reynolds really. But my go-to after a long week is always a lighthearted romance or comedy. I also had an unhealthy obsession with Johnny Depp when I was younger. Im terrible with knowing artists of songs but I love the classic easy-listening and jazz like Ol Blue Eyes and the rest of the Rat Pack, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald. I have a lot of songs by Train, Birds of Tokyo, Florence + the machine, Imagine Dragons, Jack Johnson, Angus and Julia Stone. I'm enjoying finally getting back into reading again now I'm travelling as I spent so much time reading for work it wasnt fun anymore, and I'd love to hear any recommendations you have.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm always happy to cook a meal for others. I'm a decent home cook and love experimenting and trying new recipes and cuisines. And I'm always happy to give lots of love and affection to any pets you have, take them for a walk, make them fall in love with me etc.
