About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to incorporate tiny adventures into my daily existence.

ABOUT ME

Sometimes, I get shy (like when people ask me about myself [take right now for an example]).
I've always been drawn to writing in one form or another.
I'm not a vegetarian but a lot of people assume I am.
I'm borderline music-obsessed. College radio DJ, music festival organizer (Boomslang Festival, Lexington, check it out if you're inclined), sometimes-music-writer, record collector, legal and illegal music downloader, show-goer, crazy-dancer, shower singer.
I've become increasingly interested in yoga over the past 3 years.
I love to cook and am pretty damn good at it.
I like to have a good time and am also pretty damn good at that.
I have a very social yet introspective personality.
I love Kentucky but I love to travel as well.
I don't travel as much as I yearn to, but I try to plan at least 2-3 decent trips a year (plus monthly out-of-town adventures, mostly to see music) so that I always have something to look forward to.
I like to take pictures but am not very good at it.
Farkle is the best game (laser tag is a close second).
The New Yorker is my favorite magazine.
I bought a sweet little house in Lexington three years ago with my beau/life partner Jonathan and our schipperke Siren, and life is pretty sweet.

Music, Movies, and Books

Unflinching favorites: Let the Right One In, Wizard of Oz, Donnie Darko, The Big Lebowski, There Will Be Blood, Rear Window, Half Nelson. Some good ones I've seen lately: Exit through the Gift Shop, Winter's Bone, True Grit, Our Man Flint, Chinatown.

books that are dear to my heart: The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Corrections, All the King's Men, Welcome to the Monkeyhouse

music is where things start to get complicated and explosive, but we'll give it a go: Ween. Broadcast. Pink Floyd. Fela Kuti. Explosions in the Sky. Godspeed you! Black Emperor. Mission of Burma. Slint. Papa M. Beach House. Black Mountain. Massive Attack. Caribou. Stereolab. Siousxie and the Banshees. Joy Division. Gang of Four. Mike Patton. Erik Satie. The Bees. Curtis Mayfield. Pavement. PJ Harvey. Atlas Sound. Bill Callahan.

Teach, Learn, Share

Things I know, and could probably teach you if you wanted to learn:
Managing a where-the-wild-things-are style music festival 101.
AP style/grammar.
The lost art of letter writing.
Downward dog.
How to say the Pledge of Allegiance (to the flag of the USA) in Spanish (I know, it makes no sense but I've had it memorized since 5th grade).
How to make really awesome brothy tofu soup.
How to set up a gmail account.
How to set up a wordpress blog.
How to french braid someone else's hair.
(I'm sure we could come up with some other very relevant and important life skills for me to teach you...)

If anyone out there can successfully teach me how to whistle, I'll thank you in the liner notes of my great American novel, to be published/written TBA...seriously, it's ridiculous that I have not been able to figure it out.
