About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Leap far, get cought in mid-air, look around, land smoothly...

ABOUT ME

In the morning one of my eyes scans the surroundings, sends the message to my brain, my brain decides to send a message back - close. The eyelid closes up once again and I get to slip in to my dreams for a few more minutes...or hours actually! I love these kinds of mornings. I mean the mornings that stretch to noons, breakfasts to branches and lunches to dinners. No pressure what so ever, just a book or a movie. However, these lazy days would be dull if there wasn't some excitement preceding and following, wouldn't they?!

All about me now, hey? Could there be a hint in the preceding paragraph that I don't really want to talk about myself? Hm... I shell try to, though. I am not tall, not really short either (I mean I am not a midget, though to a 194 cm guy it might seem so). My voice is quite soft, I don't like to shout, I hate to be shouted at. At noisy places in foreign countries I prefer to communicate in a language which is foreign to me and to my partner, so that we both have to make an effort.
I am very fond of languages, but, what is a language without its cultural background? I mean, is it even possible to grasp a language not to its fullest but at least to a tiny bit of its immense extend without knowing (in at least the same tiny bit of its immense extend) the culture behind it? This is the reason I embrace travelling and getting to know people from different parts of the world.

PHILOSOPHY

Looking in the schmorgisborg of my life for one.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Why does anyone? Traveling is one thing. Seeing various cities, architecture, tasting food... For that one might just travel the usual way...Couchsurfing gives a possibility to connect with the country on a very different level. The experience gets more real in itself. I like that kind of real.

Interests

Travelling, of course. I play the sax, love it, too. Dancing is one of my other passions - all sorts - contemporary, ballet, salsa, ball-room, you name it. And of course animals, mainly dogs...sled-dogs to be precise. I like to take four or five of them and to sled with them around during winter...and one great flat-coated retriever (he doesn't sled with us, though) Oh, and books of course (on lazy days in bed, in the train, in the bathtub...) Bathtubs, when we are on the topic, everything is great in a bathtub - wine, cold beer, champagne (i enjoy all of those also out of the tub, naturally, but, well...), movie, aforementioned book! Sauna! Hiking! Skinny dipping in super cold mountain lakes whilst hiking! Hm...I have also found passion for cooking and baking - it can be so therapeutic...

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy Douglas Adams books, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman , R.E. Feist, Milan Kundera books, Sapiens by Harari...besides these, I give a chance to anything someone recommends or I find abandoned somewhere. When I get sad and can't fall asleep, I listen to Harry Potter read by Steven Fry...

Currently I like to watch BBC series - Dr. Who (well, not really any more, but I do have a soft spot for David Tennant, still), Sherlock (was fun, Benedict Cumberbatch is great, especially in one of my favourite BBC radio shows - Cabin Pressure), Torchwood (was a spin off of Dr. Who, so yeah, I was hooked on that too, but that was kind of long time ago - I am editing this post after some years, if you haven't figured it out yet), Casanova miniseries (coulden't resist David Tennant and Russel T. Davis).... Black Books, Father Tad, Black Adder, Coupling, Boston Legal (has James Spader in it), Blacklist (older James Spader is even more charismatic...)
I got immersed into the Game of Thrones a few years back - I mean really. The show. Then it ran out of episodes, so I did the books...and the audiobooks...whilst waiting for the new episodes...now I ran out of books and R.R. Martin is getting older and older...

I am very fond of audio series. Big fan of John Finnemore - already mentioned Cabin Pressure, and there is the absolutely priceles sketch show, the John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme... an indisputable jewel of good old fashioned radio comedy...

A bit of jazz (not the standard kind, or not for long...), a bit of funk and latin to get dancing. Did I say I play in a 50's rock'n'roll band? So that kind of music, too...and good old real blues...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Everything I do is amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach dancing, love learning dancing...and love sharing dancing. Same goes for languages, drinking (the teaching and learning goes better whilst connected to a well measured shyness relieving amount of alcohol)... Share memories...better still, create shared memories.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share the whole of myself...hm, not exactly in the biblical sense, if that came across like that...My experience, humor edged with sarcasm, my laughter, opinions which can disagreed with, discussed and challenged...music...especially playing, if there is space and eagerness to share this kind of experience...
The world the way I perceive it...
