Overview
About Me
Coming to Rio de Janeiro one of my favorite cities in late June 2019!!!
CURRENT MISSION
I am a writer and life coach and an all-around free spirit apparently. I didn't realize I was such a free spirit but it turns out that I am. I grew up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the US and spent most of my adult life in the Bay Area (San Francisco), California until my mid-thirties when I started spending a lot of time in South America (first Brazil, then Colombia and now mostly Argentina).
Buenos Aires has been my home base for a while while I am working on my third book, a memoir, and I'm kind of feeling into where I want to live next, whether in the US or abroad. Thus, I am traveling and enjoying life as I look around at all the wonderful places in the world.
I work remotely as a life coach working with clients via Skype or phone and I write so I can be anywhere where time zones are compatible. I think of myself as more multi-homed than digital nomad. My homes are RI, SF/Oakland, Buenos Aires, Paris, New York, and Rio and always finding more.
+++++++++++++
In autumn 2009 I left my job and my life in San Francisco, where I have lived for 13 years, to travel and shake up my world (and see the world from crooked angles). I traveled in Iceland in November and in France in December. I spent almost six months in Brasil, three months in Colombia, and now Argentina.
Traveling helps me to crack open to new ways of seeing the world. I love meeting people and learning new languages and therefore new ways of seeing. I love the way new words open my mind to new concepts.
I'm a writer who has written two books. I've also started and sold a niche social network called stylemob.com. And I have worked as a product manager in social media, published a print magazine called To-Do List, and worked in public relations to support labor unions. My career is ever evolving, as am I!
I wrote a blog post about "My Big Life Churn"--this experience of giving up my apartment, putting my belongings into storage, and heading out to meet the world, and you can read it here: http://sashacagen.com/uncategorized/the-big-life-churn/
PHILOSOPHY
Addicted to freedom, apparently. That is not a philosophy, the philosophy is forthcoming.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have met a lot of wonderful people through CS including some who have become longtime friends.
Interests
Quirks of language, politics, culture, behavior, psychology, tango, milonga, salsa, relationships, yoga, books, writers, art, rock climbing, personal growth, the art of living well! Gluten-free eating since I am celiac. And I have always been interested in whole food cooking but now this excludes whole grains and all the annoying gluten-containing additives in so many processed foods.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
* Snowmobiling on a glacier in Iceland
* Hanggliding in Rio
* Sleeping in a hammock in the Amazonian jungle
* Traveling Brazil for 5.5 months without a grand plan
* Appearing on Anderson Cooper 360 to promote my first book
* Riding in a dune buggy for four windswept days along the Ceara coast in Northeast Brazil
* Showing up for La Fete des Lumieres in Lyon, France--what a beautiful festival. I love France.
* Traveling with a Greek friend that I met at a CS gathering in SF for ten days in Iceland when we hardly knew each other beforehand--really mostly through IM!
