Overview
About Me
Hola! We are Brian (33) and Sasha (29) from the United States. We are originally from the East Coast (Boston and Washington DC) but we've lived in California for the last few years. We are currently 8 months into a yearlong Round-the-World trip that has already taken us to 15 countries. We hope to visit another 15 before our year is over!
We love Couchsurfing...so much so that we fell in love through Couchsurfing! Sasha (a grad school student at the time) hosted Brian (a traveling musician) in Nashville in 2014. Within a year, we road tripped across the USA, backpacked through Southeast Asia (a trip cut short by a motorbike accident and broken wrist in Laos) and moved in together in California. We got married in 2016 and have been traveling as much as we can ever since.

¡Hola!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Sasha - In my early 20's I lived in Spain. My roommates and I had amazing surfing experiences all over Europe with incredibly generous and friendly hosts. We also had the opportunity to host some pretty rad people at our apartment in Madrid. Also, I met my husband here ;)
Brian - In addition to meeting Sasha through CS, my band used Couchsurfing while on tour through California.
When traveling, it's always great to visit major tourist attractions and historic sites, but we really love getting to know places by exploring with locals. It is a much richer experience to eat, drink, see, play, and discover a city with people who know and love it.
Interests
Traveling is our principal interest. Whenever we can, we like to incorporate nature, hikes, and camping into our plans. Our other favorite parts of traveling include meeting people and eating good food.
We both enjoy staying active, mindfulness meditation, cooking, and reading.

Music, Movies, and Books
Sasha likes some of everything! That holds true for music (except heavy metal) and books. She often rotates between non-fiction and fiction reads.
Brian's big 3 for authors - Haruki Murakami, John Irving, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Brian's big 3 for bands - Wilco, Ryan Adams, Dr. Dog
We both loved Michael Pollan's "How To Change Your Mind" as we both have an interest in the therapeutic uses of psychedelics, an interest that led us to try Ayahuasca in Peru back in November (ask us more if you're interested- we're happy to share!)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Our around the world trip began with a two-month safari through eight countries in Africa. There were too many amazing elements to list here but one thing in particular was a tandem gorge swing- an 85 meter drop off of a gorge at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe!
Teach, Learn, Share
While Sasha is already (mostly) fluent in Spanish, Brian is trying to get over self-consciousness to become more comfortable in the language before we leave South America in mid-February. With the start of this trip, Brian moved away from 10 years as a professional musician and hopes to learn what he wants to do next with his life during this trip. The ayahuasca retreat has already given us insights into how we structure our future!
We are always curious to learn more about how the mind and human psyche work and it's been wonderful to expose ourselves to so many alternate ways of life and different cultures.
What I Can Share with Hosts
We always like to share our gratitude by taking our hosts out to dinner and/or cooking one of our favorite meals! We like to share conversation and genuine human connection with the people that we meet. Of course, sharing travel stories and any recommendations we have too!
