About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Teach English in South Korea for 1 year

ABOUT ME

I am an adventurer who loves experiencing new cultures. My current goal is to attempt to walk across the country of Colombia. Between the fall of 2007 and summer of 2009, I walked and bicycled 3,392 miles across the U.S. I have experienced almost everything there is to experience in my own country. Now it is time to explore another continent.
During the past three years I worked as a sports writer for newspapers in Savannah, Georgia and Laredo, Texas. For 71 days in 2013 I explored the country of Colombia.

PHILOSOPHY

Just treat others kindly. Not much to it, but still far few people follow that rule.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Lots of surfing previously, and also lots of hosting. I hosted 136 people in Savannah, GA (both Couch Surfers and friends and family of Couch Surfers). Hosted people from over 20 different countries. In Laredo, I only hosted two people. Unfortunately, the city doesn't attract many visitors.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most Couch Surfers I've hosted at one time was seven. I've also couch surfed a number of times not using the web site, such as knocking on a stranger's door and being hosted that way.
I've Couch Surfed in more than 60 cities around America. I enjoy both hosting and surfing. It is a great way to experience another culture.

Interests

Storm Chasing definitely is top of the list.
Beach Volleyball, hiking, biking, kayaking, running (especially on the beach), canoeing, football, hockey, baseball, basketball, squash (the sport), the ocean, writing, reading, mountains, music, TV, playing tennis at night, ping pong.

Music, Movies, and Books

For movies: Rudy, Jeremiah Johnson, Into the Wild, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Young Guns, Bonnie and Clyde, Remember the Titans, pretty much all western movies. Music inlcudes Whitney Duncan, Kesha, Lady GaGa, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Flo Rida, Taylor Swift, Sugarland, Toby Keith, pretty much everything.
The Places in Between (by Rory Stewart) and Born to Run are my favorite books. And Into the Wild. Gone to Texas and The Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales are my favorite fiction books. Love a good western book.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Experienced Hurricane Irene in the tiny coastal community of Atlantic, NC, the hardest-hit populated area of the entire storm. My brother, friend and I chased it up from Savannah, and by pure luck ended up in the middle of the hurricane with winds well over 100 mph and tons of rain and flooding. We spent the night of the storm in our car and the next night stranded at an emergency hurricane shelter. CRAZY CRAZY experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach a lot. I can learn a lot. And I'll try to share what I can.
