About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be the person I wish I were, am proud to have been, and did not expect to be.

ABOUT ME

I love seeking to understand new things, be they places, people, ways of living, or ideas. I can be quiet and am usually pretty flexible, but also like to get fired up about the exciting, the silly, and the important. Walking my own path and being happy with the company I keep in solitude is important to me.

PHILOSOPHY

I consider myself an applied optimist.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have both surfed and hosted and loved it! Previously I helped host surfers as a member of Chrysalis Coop.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to live at Chrysalis Coop (http://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?id=36BKMPU) and helped host and surfed under that account. We had some great guests at the coop and I had a wonderful time with my hosts in Quebec City! I have continued surfing under this account after I moved out from Chrysalis.

Interests

Good food, anything involving the outdoors, designing anything indoors.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love "Immortality" by Milan Kundera. Borges. "This American Life." I seem to be drawn to metaphor and story telling.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing thing's I've seen is a narrow arch of ice formed at the toe of an Alaskan glacier. My expedition found it after days of walking from the nearest road. Like the delicate arch in Arches National Park, its size at the thinnest point seemed impossibly small given the some 40' it spanned. The void it traced framed the snowy glacial peaks of the Eastern Alaska Mountain Range in the golden grazing arctic sunlight. Knowing that it has now probably melted or collapsed under the glacier's movement makes the experience even more stunning. I believe there is a strong relationship between beauty and the ephemeral.
