About Me

Are you an adventurous person? Do you truly want to live your life to the fullest? Have you ever dreamed of traveling across Africa? I have a fully equipped 4x4 ready in South Africa. Do you have the courage and time? If you would like to be part of the adventure, drop me a line.

CURRENT MISSION

...Africa!!!

ABOUT ME

All? Do I need to say all about me. Well that will take us until tomorrow, at least, so let's try to be concise. I grew up in Spain, half Swiss, educated in a Swiss school in Spain. I went some years ago to Los Angeles, to study in graduate school. I always loved science and research, and learnt the brain is a truly fascinating field.

My wife Alia is from Montana, and she was raised to love the outdoors. She studied and works in forestry, which allows her to be outside instead of behind a desk. She has loved science since she was very young, but she also is a proficient seamstress who sews historical gowns.

We love to travel. I love sports; particularly to play. Alia likes art; especially when it is hers. We like to talk to people; we don't like TV. We like freedom.

We have started a blog, so we can share our experiences with friends and family. It is a work in progress, but as long as our loved ones can see where we are, what we are doing, and who we are with, that is all that matters.

PHILOSOPHY

Enjoy my life, making sure I don't shoot off all the arrows in my quiver and don't disturb other people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I joined CouchSurfing when I was on a cross-country bicycle tour, and one day I found myself in Glacier Park, the snow was falling and I didn't have any place to stay. Somebody told me about CouchSurfing and I signed up. I think it's an awesome idea. Riding a bicycle across the country is so completely different than traveling by car. You meet real people, you learn about local communities. To be able to be hosted by a local neighbor is so much better than staying in a cold motel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have stayed with over 100 people now, and we feel pretty experienced. We have stayed with people in many countries and have always felt welcome and at home. We hosted some, but we have never had a permanent enough home to host very much.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like to listen to a lot of classic rock and 80's pop music. If I started writing down all the bands, we would be here for a while. Alia likes more avante-garde and experimental music. We watch movies sometimes, but right now we don't have too much time. I have never read too many books for leisure.  I have never had the time.  But, now Alia reads books to me.  She likes science fiction and fantasy, so that is usually what we read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Uy, I've seen and done many!

Teach, Learn, Share

We could teach you how to cook.  I know a lot of Spanish and Swiss recipes, and Alia has a lot of ranch-style food recipes.  I could teach you some Spanish, but, what would be most interesting and useful, is to learn about the brain. I could explain how the brain works: where do our thoughts and feelings come from. Would you like to know how happiness works? The problem is that everybody, that is, we all, have our own theories on this topic, so nobody is willing to accept somebody else's theories.

Alia loves trees, so she is more than happy to tell you all she knows about forestry.
