About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Find out what makes me happy, then get on it. Because you can't help others if you can't help yourself.
ABOUT ME
Elusive. Dreamy, reality-escaping, pensive, philosophizing. Giggly with the right people. I love Loriot's humour. But mostly, I feel constantly confuzzled about the whole "beingness" of things and often enough people and places alike downright overstrain me. I can be fun to be with but that won't keep me from feeling awkward almost everywhere. At some point in my life I would like to have a cat call me hers (or his), which would make my crazy-cat-lady-antics complete. Gisbert zu Knyphausen sums up my world view: the world is abonimable. And beautiful.
PHILOSOPHY
Every day begins with an act of courage and hope: getting out of bed. (Mason Cooley, City Aphorisms)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
At this time I am fairly certain I could never host somebody, heck, sometimes I can't even stand myself being in the same flat (or head) as me. Don't know how you guys do it and I certainly admire and appreciate your comfortableness with complete strangers in your apartments. I am not one known for going out much, so if you want a tour of the local pubs and clubs... you get my drift.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
none whatsoever
Interests
I am interested in the non-material part of mankind. From shamanic practices to the potential of our dreams, alternate states of conciousness, meditation, the paranormal and what some might consider esoteric new-age stuff. That doesn't mean I believe everything I see, but it is exactly that glitch between science and the (make-)belief, between scepticism and narrow-mindedness, between individual experience today and methods that are old as the hills that intrigue me. Similarities and differences in cultures all over the world. I am also interested in the mannerisms of people, like non-verbal communication, body language, forensic linguistics...
But you can get me talking about a lot of other stuff, too - be it British Tv series, the great outdoors, buddhism, ornithology, the universe, singing, archaeology, Anime, South American tribes, cinema, the sea, travelling in general, Irish folk and other stuff that escapes right now.
TL;DR: I enjoy reading, both for education as for entertainment, I like hiking and am dependant on having some nature near me. I use tv series a lot to procrastinate. I like gaming evenings with my sister, my family or my friends.
I like to meditate and would like to experiment with dream yoga. I would like to pick up martial arts again, at some point. And TaiChi. If I had the money, right now I would hop on the next plane to Scotland.

Music, Movies, and Books
Rather than list every book/ movie I've seen it shall suffice to say that I like fantasy à la Lord of the Rings as much as everything that falls into the "slice of life" genre. I love books and movies that sort of quietly fade out and leave you with a lot of questions, thoughts and the occasional WTF? instead of a definite answer or conclusion. Philosophical is also always an option (Jostein Gaarder for example). Also movies/ books that muddle reality and dream/ memories, like Big Fish, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep. Impressionistic, expressionistic or downright surrealistic stuff. Contrasting that, I also enjoy your plain old action movie just like everybody else. Can't be bothered with most of the modern animated/ Pixar stuff. Would like to see the whole Ingmar Bergman filmography at some point. Finally, what is it with everybody geeking out about slasher movies?
Music, oh boy. It depends on the mood, really. It ranges from Sigur Rós to SOAD. Though I have a thing for European folklore traditions (Xera? No? Nevermind). Also some German bands of Grand Hotel van Cleef. You can find me listening to all sorts of trance (and sometimes dubstep) when I'm down. You will also almost always find me sing along (except for dubstep).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I raced cars in the Peruvian desert. Well, when I say cars... they were Cinquecentos. I used to bathe in the frigging cold creeks of the Alps (stark naked of course). I had a dream telepathy experience with my sister. I am awestruck mostly by the little things, like the noise the trees make swining in the wind, the way the sunlight plays on water. A blackbird's concert in the evening. Also: the universe has me pretty impressed. Have you ever REALLY LOOKED AT IT?
Teach, Learn, Share
Would anybody be interested in starting a discourse about all the sides of today's 'paratainment'? Does anybody feel like discussing/ experiencing shamanic travels, Remote Viewing and other "esoteric knowledge"? I can't teach them, but I can talk about them in length and am always keen to learn new stuff. For me, it's important to always keep a critical point of view on it and listening to others' points of view will constantly revalidate your own. As CS says: It's about exchange.
I would like to have a TaiChi partner to train with. I am a total noob (only one semester, and I forgot most of what I learned), but I'd like to know more about push hands excercises.
