About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Escape from work as often as possible

ABOUT ME

ALL about me? Wow, that's a lot to write in a small space! I suppose I'll try to summarize as best as possible.
I recently graduated with my MSc and am now working in what I find to be a pretty ideal field, tropical research (specifically malaria diagnostics). It's challenging and rewarding and a perfect application of my skills. When I'm not being a science geek, I'm usually playing/training/thinking of lacrosse. My team in Utrecht is my family away from home.
Other than that, I'm a terrible, yet enthusiastic tennis player, I love to cook and make delicious butter chicken, banana bread, and peanut butter cookies. I obviously love to travel and my goal is to one day play lacrosse on every continent (3 so far!).

PHILOSOPHY

Good things come to those who have the balls to go out and get them. Sort of a "make your own destiny" type statement.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have to admit that I've definitely slacked off couchsurfing recently. Making the transition from full-time (more than full-time sometimes) student to gainfully employed "grown-up" was much more time-consuming than I anticipated. But now that I've settled, I'm keen to get back to the CS lifestyle!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Although I've been a CSer for over two years, I feel I'm definitely lacking in the stories. Time to make up for that!

Interests

Lacrosse, dancing (salsa, ballet, particularly bad moves when no one's watching), theatre, hockey, cooking, neglected tropical diseases, nachos, exploring, photography, sailing. Oh yes, and travelling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: sadly a lot of textbooks and scientific articles of late. I'm slowly working my way through all the books in Les Trois Mousquetaires (en francais bien sure). Hervé This's Molecular Gastronomy is next on my list.
Music: Bloc Party, Bedouin Soundclash, Vivaldi, Metric, Youngblood Brass Band, A Fine Frenzy- pretty much all over the map. I'll listen to just about anything and I love it when people recommend an artist or band I've never heard before.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swimming with a whale shark after scuba diving in Malaysia is one of the coolest things I've ever experienced.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can't make coffee to save my life but I can splice genes and I make a mean peanut butter chocolate chip cookie.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
