About Me

Hi there! Well, I've lived my entire life in Colombia, except for two months that I lived in Quito, Ecuador with an aunt. That was a great experience because I got to know very kind people who taught me lots of things about this country. I like to hang out with my friends in any way possible: sharing a meal, playing sports or videogames together, having a drink and talking...anything! Many people and friends descrbe me as a shy and serious person on a first impression, but I can assure you that once I feel comfortable and trustful around new people you will see that I'm a friendly and easygoing guy. You could say I'm a frustrated linguist: I speak 4 languages, yet I decided to study Engineering :P

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Ever since I lived those two months in Ecuador and met amazing people over there, I've wanted to do it again. It was such a beautiful discovery to learn that, given time, you can compenetrate with people from far away, no matter the differences between cultures, opinions, or even languages or ways of speaking (because spanish can be a tricky language here in South America!)

After that, I also had the opportunity to travel around Europe in two occasions with my family. Although I saw amazing places and learned lots of things about them, I didn't feel completely satisfied with the experience; almost always I felt like a stranger who was just passing by. I want to get to know the people that live in these parts of the world I visit, try to see through their eyes the space they live in, understand and learn a bit about their lives, if they're willing to share them with me. And I want to do the same thing for the travelers that come to the city I live! I think that would make me appreciate in a new level the next journeys I make and the places I visit.

As a host, I want to make people who come to my city feel like they are part of it, at least for a while, by sharing experiences and offering something else from what sightseeing tours do. Not that I am sure how to do the last thing but I have my mind and heart open to learn and give my best! Basically this is why I am on CS (I extended a bit more than I expected :P)

Interests

Assorted. I studied Engineering and I feel very passionate for what I've studied and learned, but I also feel passionate for other branches of knowledge, for example human history and geography, and also other branches of Humanities. Maybe that's why I love traveling so much: underneath the history of mankind the secrets or solutions to many problems may be laying, waiting to be noticed. I have a lot of interest in sports, specially cycling and hiking.

Music, Movies, and Books

If I had to pick a favorite music gender I'd pick classic rock, but most of the time I listen to almost any kind of music, thanks to my sister. I have an open mind for it :D. About books...my personal favorites are all the books written by Milan Kundera, but I enjoy different kinds of literature: adventure, fantasy, mystery and intrigue, folk tales, even a little poetry. I don't watch a lot of movies by myself and don't have any favorite films, but I like to watch them with somebody else. It's nice to watch movies with good company.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in Ecuador I spent Christmas Eve climbing the Cotopaxi volcano. I was 13 years old and even though I didn't reach the crater, I hiked above the level of permanent snow. I remember a dense fog came down on us and we had to stop the ascent; I couldn't see anything more than 3 meters away! As we were leaving at the end of the day I looked at the mountain for the last time and it still remains as one of the most majestic views I have printed on my memories.

Teach, Learn, Share

What can I say? I'm an engineer and I have a lot of experience in teaching math, physics, strenght of materials, thermodynamics...Just kidding!! I may be able to help you with a little bit of language exchange if you are interested (or you could help me too!) I am quite self-sufficient in the languages I list on my profile. I also know how to dance salsa and I like it a lot, so I might be able to teach you some basics (although I'm not quite good dancing in couples hehe) As for myself, I find thrilling learning something new everyday, no matter what it is. A good conversation, an anecdote, or insights about something can be very stimulating to me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share some of my experiences traveling, and anything you want to know about my country. I enjoy to have good talks, and I am a great listener as well. I'm not a great cook but I like a lot doing it, so we can share a nice meal and cook it together! For me, when it comes to cooking with someone else, it's all about the fun.
