About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn 'til I die, Travel 'til I die, and Live 'til I die!

ABOUT ME

There's a lot to learn about me, just as there is about you. I like to put equal effort into learning about myself as well as others around me.

PHILOSOPHY

(section under construction: I am currently weaving my own way of life, still just in the early phases.)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hands-on experience is the best way I learn, the best way I contribute, and the best way to have fun, all at the same time. I hope to get to know many couches and their owners.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Frequently I will crash at the Dashain Co-op House in Isla vista, neighboring UCSB, where many of my friends live. Couch surfers from different parts of the state, country, and globe often come to stay at Dashain. I've heard so many stories from these couch-surfers about their travel plans, missions and goals. Through their stories and presence, I feel I have experienced just a taste of couch-surfing, but it is enough for me to want to get out and share my own mission, goals, and stories with others.

Interests

carpentry, cooking, DIY anything (projects, bicycle touring, inventing, Macgyver maneuvers), camping, ocean activities, rock climbing, freegan economy (dumpster diving, trading instead of buying, the free-section of craigslist), amateur photography, building huts with tree parts in the woods or on the beach or anywhere really...

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to hear new music. new genres, bands, albums by favorite bands, non-western music (hence my major in ethnomusicology), music theory, music history (especially when told by Dr. Katz @ UCSB) - everything about music excites me. I don't listen to skank-rap ("b!$*hes and hoes, b!$*hes and hoes"...) I think it is pointless. Or maybe I have yet to find what's worth listening to in it. Maybe you can show me?

I've become more critical of movies in the last couple of years. I still enjoy watching any movie just for the sake of entertainment, but now I like to comment and criticize and aspects like the acting, directing, story line, and special effects. I'm always reading into the story, finding the moral or underlying motive of the screenwriter, then determining if that was the writer's intent, and finally deciding whether or not I find it relevant... okay this mostly happens when watching documentaries. I've been watching documentaries GALORE lately.
Some of my Go-To-Anytime movies:
Armageddon, Coraline, Bandits, Lord of the Rings (anyone know what happened to production of The Hobbit?), Star Wars I-VI...

I've never been a huge book person. Some of my favorites have been:
Pillars of the Earth, and its sequel, World without End, by Ken Follett
the Alex Cross detective series, by James Patterson.
Blaze, by Stephen King.
Lord of the Flies
The Body of Christopher Creed, by Carol Plum-Ucci (my first favorite novel as a teenager)
Tuesdays with Morrie & Have a Little Faith, by Mitch Albom
Dexter in the Dark, by Jeff Lindsay (the TV series was majorly cheesy, but I enjoyed it).

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to share my thoughts and feelings with people, and I want to learn how to do that and understand them.

I also have a small assortment of random skills I can share, and many many many many many many many very many more I would like to learn.
