About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am an international social entrepreneur running a nonprofit that develops leaders called Atlas Corps - www.atlascorps.org

ABOUT ME

Scott Beale, 35, is a social entrepreneur and the founder of Atlas Corps, an international organization that addresses critical social issues by developing leaders, strengthening organizations and promoting innovation through an overseas fellowship of skilled nonprofit professionals. Atlas Corps is sometimes called a “reverse Peace Corps” because the organization has brought 53 leaders from 18 countries to volunteer in the U.S., but it is more accurately a multilateral service corps, since the organization also sends Americans to volunteer abroad. Scott has been called “The Nonprofit Entrepreneur” by the Washington Post and was honored by the Independent Sector as one of the top 12 young nonprofit leaders in the country. The Brookings Institution has declared Atlas Corps as a “best practice” in international exchange. Atlas Corps is also a leader in online crowd sourcing philanthropy, having won five online contests in just two years, raising $400,000 in the process.

Scott has been a leader in the nonprofit and government sectors for 15 years. In 1996 Scott went to Bosnia to do humanitarian work and then became the youngest Core Supervisor from any country with OSCE, an intergovernmental organization supervising the Bosnian elections. In the U.S. Scott worked for Governor Carper of Delaware as well as the Associate Director of Intergovernmental Affairs in the White House. At Ashoka’s Youth Venture he helped over 1,000 young people start nonprofit organizations. He is a leader of the Millennial Generation as the author of Millennial Manifesto and has delivered over 500 speeches on his “10 Steps To Change the World”. After the 2004 Election, the Youth Vote Coalition named him one of “30 People Under 30 Changing Politics in America.” Scott then moved to India to help coordinate the U.S. Government's efforts to fight modern day slavery. He received his B.A. from Georgetown University and his M.P.A. from the University of Delaware. He is happily married to Courtney Beale, who is a U.S. Foreign Service Officer.
