About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To eat good food and meet excellent people. To travel and educate myself.

I work seasonally which affords me the ability to spend my winters travelling and working on organic farms across the world. Last year I travelled around the States and New Zealand, volunteering on organic farms and making friends.

ABOUT ME

I'm an outdoorsy guy, big on food and especially sharing it. Love to travel, try new foods and activities. I'll talk philosophy, bad jokes, recipes and anything else that comes to mind. Easy going and relaxed, sometimes take a while to come out of my shell, but I'm trying to get past that.

PHILOSOPHY

Share the love. Keep the peace. Eat good food and laugh at bad jokes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can help around the house, cleaning/tidying/moving things about. I'm always happy to cook for people and can cater for all kind of diets. Anyone visiting Reading, though I don't have space for you to crash, I'll take you out, meet for food, show some great little restaurants and pubs.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I spent 6 months traveling between 2017 and 2018, couchsurfed across the States, and in New Zealand. Met some great people, some of whom I'm still in contact with and are welcome in my home!

Interests

Food is my driving force and passion, cooking for myself and others, discovering new recipes. Also enjoy photography and sketching, anything vaguely artistic is fun.

I've been a scout since I was 10, and love the outdoors, worked two seasons for The Bushcraft Company, as a bushcraft instructor and field chef. But the best bit was spending my entire summer living outdoors, in some beautiful woodland.

Been caving since I was twelve casually as part of a caving club. Also go wild camping with the same group, being outdoors, cooking together on fires and stoves.

I like to run and to wild swim, in the sea, lakes and rivers. Wherever I can, as much as I can.

Music, Movies, and Books

Films: Donnie Darko, Sin City, Top Secret, Airplane, Easy A, Tron, How to Train Your Dragon, Rust and Bone, Tomboy, I like a lot of films.

Music: Pretty much anything and everything though I love classic rock and 80s music in general .

Books: Terry Pratchett, Jon Krakauer, Tolkien, Douglas Adams, Tad Williams, Bernard Cornwell, The Harry Potter Novels, Swiss Family Robinson, Recipe books.. I'm big on sci-fi and fantasy, but also historical novels, and, you guessed it, anything with a strong foodie theme.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I worked in the woods, I was always the first person to arrive on site the night before a camp would begin. I would set the kitchen up, get everything ready. Then I'd build myself a fire and cook my dinner on it. I'd be alone 9 times out of 10.
Spending the evening alone, watching the fire, listening to the noise of the trees, especially before the noise and madness of all the kids arriving. It was beautiful.

Teach, Learn, Share

Love to learn anything; hear stories from all over the world. Happy to share recipes and discuss outdoor skills; caving, camping, fire lighting, bushcraft.

I used to teach cookery classes at a local shelter, I learn by doing and find sharing knowledge by experience and activity to be very rewarding.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you've got this far, you'll know I'm into food. I'll cook you dinner, share some recipes, whatever you'd like. I'm reasonably handy so can and will help around the house. I can clean, tidy, paint, sweep, I'm happy to help. In general even if we can't share a meal together I'll leave you some cookies or a cake or chocolate brownie.
I can share stories, aspirations and inspirations, and also recipes.
