About Me

I was born and raised near the sunny beaches of Durban, South Africa. The first time I left home was when I was in high school and had to go on a flight to England alone. From that point on, the travel bug has never really left me.

I currently teach English in South Korea, for the past 2 years, and in my free time I like exploring new places, meeting new people, and learning about new cultures. I've traveled to 14 countries thus far and my next goal is 20. I like dogs, coffee, The Golden Girls, and snacks (and a lot of other things as well).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to get a genuine grass roots experience of a place rather than the backpackers hostel bar experience. I want to meet locals and find out the stories behind the places I'm going to see, and make friends along the way. I also want to grow my global village. I've made plenty of friends along the way with my travels, but rarely any local people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Pretty much the top pop/dance charts, also Folk music and South African music (Goldfish, Pascal & Pearce, Jeremy Loops, Goodluck, Mi Casa, Matthew Mole, Majozi, Al Bairre, Jain)

Movies - Pretty much anything Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Doomsday, or Disney. Huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC (some of them), Harry Potter universe, Star Trek & Star Wars.

Books - Usually mostly sci-fi or fantasy. Obvious picks are Harry Potter, but also the Humanity's Fire series by Michael Cobley, and the Dune franchise by Frank Herbert. I sometimes read regular fiction as well, and that varies on themes and interests.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In my final year of university I went on an archaeological field school to the Koobi Fora Basin in Kenya, sponsored by the George Washington University and the National Museums of Kenya. About 10km south of the Ethiopian boarder we were exploring an old dig site, and I found a tooth of possibly a Euthecodon, a species of crocodile that grew up to 10m in length and lived between 5 million and 12,000 years ago. I had to leave the tooth behind though :(

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to get involved in volunteer programs while I travel in my spare time, maybe even volunteer English programs. I'd like to learn about people's cultures and their way of life, their crafts and their skills. I'd like to share in experiences and grow my global village.

What I Can Share with Hosts

High quality knowledge of coffee, sassy commentary, jokes, random facts about things, and how to flirt with someone in Afrikaans :)

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Botswana, China, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Netherlands, South Korea, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
