Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have hosted a few couchsurfers in the past through my old roommates account and surfed on many couches during my travels and met great friends for life.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Always try to meet new people and grow my network, my plan is to sail around the world when I retire and I want to have as many friendly faces to greet me in every port of call along the way. I can afford hotels, but prefer to make a human connection vs. inhabit a sterile predictable box while I rest. Eventually my schedule and general energy might prohibit my participation, but while I am still young and full of energy I figure it is better to put myself out there and find other like-minded people who might help me change the world, or at the very least have some great conversations and create lasting friendships.
“Persistence ... Press on. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” - Calvin Coolidge

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time someting like that happened in politics or religion."
— Carl Sagan
"Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life"
-Bertolt Brecht
"You only get one life. No receipt, no proof of purchase. you can't take it back to the shops if bored. Hence the fact that you should appreciate what you've got. Find a job you love, visit your grandparents and get to the seaside as often as possible. Eat well and eat cake. Go running, go jumping. Get your five a day. Laugh. Feed the dog. Fix your bike. Have a baby and smoke a cigar. Camp in the woods, bake some bread and buy a trampoline."

“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.” -Albert Einstein
Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.
-Asimov
"You can achieve anything you want in life if you have the courage to dream it, the intelligence to make a realistic plan, and the will to see that plan through to the end.”

“One final paragraph of advice: do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am — a reluctant enthusiast... a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You will outlive the bastards.” -Edward Abbey
If religion is true, its followers would not try to bludgeon their young into an artificial conformity; but would merely insist on their unbending quest for truth, irrespective of artificial backgrounds or practical consequences- H.P. Lovecraft
By the democratic principles we espouse, government cannot have a right that citizens do not grant it. There are certain things that a person has no right to do. A person has no right to murder or rape another. Therefore, people cannot grant government authority to murder and rape. Similarly, no person has the right to forcibly take the property of one person in order to give it to another. Therefore, people cannot grant government authority to do the same thing. If I forcibly took property from one person, for any reason, most people would condemn it as theft, an immoral act. Theft or any other immoral act does not become moral because it is done by government acting on behalf of a consensus or majority vote just as murder or rape does not become a moral act simply because of a consensus or majority vote. - Walter E. Williams
Take risks in your life. If you win, you can lead. If you lose, you can guide- Swami Vivekananada
Expecting life to treat you well because you're a good person is like expecting an angry bull not to charge because you're a vegetarian." -Shari R. Barr
Every person dies twice. Once when the breath leaves their body and another when the last person who remembers says their name for the last time. -Noah Haidle
Someone told me not to bite off more than I can chew. I told them I would rather choke on greatness than nibble on mediocrity

Lately- starting my own business and trying to figure out all the intricacies of executing an incredibly challenging business plan. I always try to get out and enjoy myself and am an avid outdoorsman- camping, backpacking, snowboarding, sailing and anything outside. I moved from the Chicago suburbs about 12 years ago to Long Beach, California and haven't regretted a single second. I love the year round amazing weather, but am planning to go pretty mobile the next 3 years while building relationships, finding investors, growing my team and meeting all the companies and people that will help solve some of the incredibly challenging problems I have identified.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
Music: the fastest most ridiculous drumming you have ever heard
Movies: almost anything Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Mark Wahlberg, and Tom Cruise are in. Anything directed by Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, or anything above 6.0 on IMDB (anything below this usually ends up being a waste of time in my experience). Life is too short to watch bad movies.
Books: Wish I had more time to read, but have recently read Jack Keourac: On the Road; Factory Girls; the Steve Jobs biography, all which were very good.
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
Snowboarding trip to Park City Utah for the Sundance film festival, was a great experience and had probably the best snowboarding conditions I have ever seen. Sailing out to Catalina Island for Buccaneers Day- a ridiculous festival that involves everyone dressing up by pirates and partaking in all sorts of swashbuckling shenanigans. Five week study abroad in Costa Rica which was probably the best experience of my life and is where I want to retire unless a better place presents itself. Pura Vida!

I have been deeply immersed in technology over the last 6 years and have obtained a vast breadth of knowledge of cutting edge technologies. If you are in the process of trying to solve some difficult problems yourself we need to talk! Based on the many problems I have identified and have been attempting to solve I have found that oftentimes brilliant scientists, engineers and business people specialize so they might not have an opportunity to obtain a broader exposure to varying problems / solutions, and are just barely missing the link between new breakthroughs. I believe if we are able to build trust, share mutual respect and collective knowledge I am certain we might be able to discover some new insights together. I have been building an enormous network and have a huge range of different solutions and capabilities from all of the unique engineering challenges I will be attempting to overcome over the next 30 years, and am happy to share any information or knowledge that might be able to help you stumble upon new solutions to create your own success.
I am fairly obsessed with trying to bring as many product to market as possible and make an impact on the lives of my future customers. I recently started a new project entitled "How to Save Humanity" where I have outlined 22 key issues that we must solve in order to preserve life as we know it. I am breaking down all the necessary approaches to achieve the solutions to these challenges to their simplest forms, and the business considerations to actually make them possible, and plan to distribute this document / manual online and hopefully it will actually get in the hands of the people who are actually trying to make a difference so we can all start working together to change the direction our world is heading in. If you are wondering, many of the products I am designing will be helping contribute to the task of managing energy consumption as the 3-4 billion people living in underdeveloped areas come out of poverty and start to adopt the conspicuous consumption habits of the western world.
Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes
Great conversations, knowledge, laughs, good beer, interesting facts and figures, and free business consulting / brainstorming (everyone has a million $ idea but not many know how to consider approaching these ideas to actually start forming a plan to make them a reality). Also an extensive network of interesting people that might be able to help you get your idea out of your mind and into the real world.
