About Me

I've spent most of my adult life working in the care sector (adults with learning disabilities, homeless charity and residential school). I gave up my house, job and the vast majority of my possessions and travelled through Europe, China then SE Asia. I was growing organic food at a friends for a few months in the U.S and now live in Glasgow where I worked very long hours as a chef. I've recently been put out of work due to Coronavirus.

I'm happy to help out people who are stranded with all the hotels and hostels being shut. I do however ask that you have strict cleansing rituals whilst staying at mine and avoid contact with the outside world as much as possible both before, during and after your stay at my house.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been humbled by peoples hospitality on my own wanders and like to think I can apply a bit of that now that I am living a more static lifestyle. I host people, take them to the pub to listen to live Scottish music then talk all the way through it (usually nonsense, but I occasionally say something profound).

I then write my surfers really boring generic references even though they have all been really interesting people. It is not intentional, it's just how I roll.

Interests

Rhythm, ebb and flow, chaos, order, evolution, community based initiatives, symbiosis, urban farming, veganism, growing mushrooms, travel, the natural world, architecture, urban planning, permaculture, sitting on my chair looking out the window, other things.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love most styles of music but Scots/Irish, African music and Reggae in particular. I tend to get bored quickly of music that has a very predictable, non intricate rhythm. I used to produce my own music obsessively for 7 or 8 years but have not made anything in a long time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I bought a second hand bike and watched a youtube video on how to change a bike tire the night before setting off for cycling around China and Laos for a few months, camping, cooking and washing my clothes in rivers. The smiles I got from all the thousands of people that I passed by was nice and not paying attention to time (other than expiring visas)was refreshing. I liked the fact that everything I owned had multiple functions. In one day I found eight different uses for a pair of socks. Socks, washing line, knee bandage, face mask due to dust from construction vehicles, to hang my torch in my tent, water filter, oven gloves and back scratcher.

I starred in a Documentary for German TV - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ineKhrUHMlg

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach very basic Chinese and music production amongst other things.

I would like to learn about microsoft excel, business management, mycology, Gaelic, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic.
