Taken early retirement due to my wife's poor health. However I am able to get away to travel for short spells on my own. Have a keen interest in learning other cultures and breaking down barriers.
I have 4 dogs, three are pedigree Irish Terriers which i breed.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have joined Couch-surfing for my trip to St Petersburg and Moscow. I have a lifelong fascination for Russia but have never visited before. I am appalled by the way my country has treated Russia and this has motivated me to visit in spite of the widespread negativity in western media. My motivation to use couch surfing is to meet local people and have conversations and learn and experience first hand other cultures and human perspectives and way of life that cannot be experienced via traditional tourist trips. .

Music, Movies, and Books

Music taste is wide and varied, including Classical, Jazz, Rock, Indie, 90's dance and 80's pop. enjoy fantasy fiction novels. Huge Tolkien fan when I was young. Enjoyed Carnival Row and The Rings of Power on Amazon. Also enjoy more cerebral indie movies.

I have had a keen interest in the world and geopolitics since i was a very young. I have always tried to understand the history and context of the events that shape our lives. I am a humanist I guess and tend to be a critic of capitalism specifically consequent inequality exploitation and environmental damage, and ultimately war. I tend to view western imperialism and colonialism negatively. I hope for a more sustainable, peaceful and fair international order based on mutual respect and different systems of governance, where we can work together for the benefit of everyone.
