ABOUT ME

Can’t host now. I am in India.

My wife and I enjoy couch surfing not to save money (although that is nice too), but to meet locals. We believe talking to a knowledgeable local is worth hours of frustrating googling and online research.

We are recently married and traveling with my wife, Cassie. She is Vietnamese. I’ve lived in Vietnam for the past 5 years, where we met. We are now traveling around central Asia, the Caucuses, and India for the rest of 2023. We are both international school teachers. We are mostly looking to meet locals and learn about cultures as we go. We probably ask a lot of questions, but in a good way we hope!

My wife is an elementary school art teacher and great with kids. I am a high school history teacher. I also have experience working with kids.

We are just starting to use our couch surfing account and looking to get some references.

We can trade information about Vietnam and the USA.

Trying to make Americans look less ugly abroad.

I have been called an "undeniable gringo" by my Latino friends before. And a "super white looking guy" by Asian friends. So I guess you could say I don't have much ethnic ambiguity in my look and burn easily in the sun.

My friends would probably say that I am nice, amiable would be more descriptive I guess.

I like to talk a lot (too much sometimes) and probably ask too many questions.

I am a very open person and I like doing new things and meeting new people. I am not afraid of much in the way of adventure either. I like good things and try not to waste time on anything negative.

A bit anxious to be getting into "life" and stuff.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We are looking to meet locals. They always have the best info.

We are really into going into nature in new places that we go.

Also in terms of food and ways to escape the city locals know best.

Interests

We like to try things in the outdoors.

We like to hike and get out on a bicycle if possible, it is the best way to see a new city.

Music, Movies, and Books

Sean: I like any music besides country music. Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem and Aphex Twin are my trinity if I pressed.

Cassie: likes “cute music” and the Vietnamese rapper Den.

I like all sorts of movies. I like to watch “the classics” and Criterion Collection Movies.

I don't read enough! But I like to read famous authors of the past.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We both drovemotorbikes from the south to the far north of Vietnam.

The first time I saw the madness of LKF in Hong Kong, as an American college student, I thought I had found the promised land.

Teach, Learn, Share

We have both worked for the past five years as teachers different international schools in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam. Sean taught English in Taiwan and China for 5 years. Cassie also worked for NGO volunteer groups in Vietnam before going into education. We can teach some English if anybody wants. We are both fairly good at helping people improve their English through conversation.

I would like to learn any local languages I come across, but I am a very poor language student.
