ABOUT ME

Oh how I hate describing myself on these things!

I'm from Dublin, Ireland. I've spent the past 6 years living in London, working as a Web Developer full-time, and playing music in bands part-time. In the world of software development, I build web application on a freelance basis. In the world of music, I play guitar, bass and some piano. I also travel with my acoustic guitar as we can't seem to part ways. :-)

I travel the world a lot, and go to a lot of music concerts. Life is good!

PHILOSOPHY

It seems to me that when one lives life in the present, life becomes rich and alive. When one lives solely in their mind, their thoughts, life loses that magical spark. It becomes repetitive and dull. We depend on beliefs for security. We live off past memories, and these memories create motive to repeat experiences of pleasure. This creates a pattern of seeking, or desire. The only freedom in life seems to be in the moment, when thought is no longer the predominant force.

So far I've couch surfed twice in Colombia thanks to two very generous hosts.

Interests

In my free time, I like playing guitar, going to music concerts, spirituality, going on spiritual retreats, socialising, dancing, going to the cinema, walking around, reading, writing, drawing, swimming. Also, I'm vegan and love discovering new healthy plant-based foods.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite film is probably "Cinema Paradiso". A truly magical Italian film with a beautiful soundtrack!

I love rock, blues, funk, reggae, jazz, classical, and more recently, some electronic music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've hiked through the mountains of Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. This was a breathtaking (and at times breathless!) experience.

I've also hiked on the Perito Moreno glacier in Argentina.

Teach, Learn, Share

This is an interesting idea. I'm sure there's a lot I can learn from hosts around the world, and vice versa. I'm quite eager to discuss anything! From what it is like living in the country I grew up in (Ireland), to the fundamental challenges of living as a human being in modern civilisation!
