About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be in the moment, Be happy, Never stop meeting new people and experiencing new things

ABOUT ME

Apparently I have to write something here now to be able to send requests, but I'm not so good at writing blanket descriptions of myself. The rest of my profile has been filled out since I joined the site and it's always seemed to have been enough for folks.

PHILOSOPHY

I am filled with wonder at all the world and universe and all the connections between everyone and everything. Practice compassion and good vibes and trust in the moment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like surfing, hosting and going to local CS meetups.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I started with CS about 2/3rd of the way through my stay in Europe and how I wish I had given it a shot earlier! I've had the pleasure of hosting once so far and have also met a couple people just while travelling through CS. And of course, I had a truly amazing experience on my most recent vacation, a bike trip through Bavaria where my friend and I stayed with CS hosts the whole way. It just wouldn't have been the same without all the wonderful hosts we met. Can't wait to surf more and also host more once I'm back in Boston.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
I listen to and love music from within all genres. I love going to concerts and seeing live music. Some of my favorites genres/categories to listen to include: punk, industrial, electronic, psychedelic, folk, singer-songwriter, world music, and ambient. My favorite genre undoubtedly must be classical though. While it comprises only a small portion of my listening, classical music truly contains some of the most beautiful works of music ever created. I personally play classical piano and have taken classical voice lessons. I also sing in an a capella group and enjoy improvising on piano, learning to beatbox and trying my hand at composition and making electronic music. Music is definitely one of the most important parts of my life.

Movies: My need-to-watch movies list is ever growing longer, but I have been managing to cross some of them off at a steady rate. Some of my favorite movies/movies I have enjoyed recently include: Huo Yuan Jia (aka Fearless), Hero, Paprika, Ink, Avatar, The Fifth Element, Perfect Blue, Inception, The King's Speech, Conspirator's of Pleasure, The Dark Knight, Drag Me to Hell, Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Mongol, Alles auf Zucker, Trainspotting and more

I have been spending more time watching TV series than movies lately though. Some of my favorite series or series I've enjoyed quite a bit recently include: The Wire, Breaking Bad, Weeds, Skins (UK version), Psych, Big Bang Theory, Ghost in the Shell, Gurenn Lagann, Planetes, Firefly, House

Favorite Books/Good books I've read recently:
Tao Te Ching - Lao Tzu
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
Galapagos - Kurt Vonnegut
Dharma Bums - Jack Kerouac
The Sound and the Fury - William Faulkner
The Sailor Who Fell From Grace with the Sea - Yukio Mishima
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Hunter S. Thompson

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Huanglong, China

Teach, Learn, Share

三人行必有我师焉

Would love to learn any good recipes, and anything music or arts related. I also like learning languages, and would particularly like to work on my German and Chinese. I would also like to learn Japanese eventually and then some other languages. Also want to learn Tai Chi, Capoiera, and all sorts of dance. Pretty much just love learning and would love to learn from anyone things which they are passionate about.

I can teach English and also some Chinese, as I am semi-fluent since I grew up speaking some, so my pronunciation is good, just vocabulary could be better. I can also teach some piano, for beginning levels.
