About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I recently finished grad school. I'm mentally preparing myself to walk out my front door with my backpack. I feel like I should pay it forward. When I wander, I encounter so much kindness that I think I should put some out there, while I have a couch to surf.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I signed up for this website years ago, but I never used my account. I got caught up in the suffocating life required of academia. Monthly payments, interest rates, and insurance policies -- the endgame of most degrees -- none of it makes any sense, so I'm stepping in front of the bus travelers ride in on.
Intersecting with travelers is more enjoyable than the "fun" scene. I walked over to the local bar tonight. Everyone was yelling and excited. It hurt my ears. I walked home. Going new places and meeting new people in an environment where I can hear them speak makes me excited. The cluster fuck of trying to hear and be heard seems far less enjoyable than hearing good stories from interesting people. So--while I'm preparing, and to interact with those who try something, you can sleep on my air mattress.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm listening to Django Reinhart a lot. Nick Offerman's new book, "Gumption," convinced me to listen to Wilco too. I found John Updike's book, "Rabbit at Rest," on the sidewalk, walking my dog. I'm reading it now. It's good. It's hard to claim favorites in literature. I found Rick Bursky's first book of poems, "the soup of something missing," under my ass, while writing this little list. I like it too. Charles Baudelaire's book, "Fleur du Mal," makes me feel, "a little less insane," to quote Modest Mouse. Tom Waits! I think I'll stop by repeating Tom Waits. He justifies repetition.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I get out of bed every morning, even though I dream of hiking the PCT again.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm full of useful and useless facts.
I guess, I'm a professional poet. I currently teach writing to college Freshman.
