About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to experience life to its fullest, spend as much time as possible outdoors, explore the world and debate its values and perspectives, and work toward promoting social justice.

ABOUT ME

We, Brian and Elaine, have lived at our present paradise on the Kaministiquia River for the past 30 years but we have travelled the globe at every opportunity. Before moving here we travelled 13 months around the globe spending most of our time in Asia. We've continued to travel with our children in South America, Latin America, Africa (3 times) and recently returned to India. At home we spend as much time in the outdoors canoeing, kayaking, camping and hiking. There are our priorities. To fund these adventures we work as a physiotherapist/professor and a custom home builder. We have 3 grown children who share our love of the outdoors and travel. We frequently host their friends and have had as many as 20 tree planters staying here at one time. While travelling we have been treated to warm welcomes, meals and accommodation all over the world and hosting other travellers is our way to pay back some of the generosity we have received over the years.

PHILOSOPHY

Strangers are friends we haven't met yet. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We are relatively new to organized couch surfing but have informally hosted guests and hitch hikers for many years.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Many times over the years we have been picked up hitch hiking, offered a ride from a train station or met in a street conversation, people who have taken us home for a meal, an afternoon of coffee and conversation or an extended home stay. We've always been amazed at people's generosity toward us and we'd like to reciprocate that kindness.

Interests

The outdoors, travel, great conversation, We are committed to challenging ourselves to grow psychologically and intellectually. We're committed to expanding our deeper understanding of inequities, marginalization and social justice issues both locally and globally.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swam with a gigantic whale shark in the Sea of Cortez, Baja, Mexico. Snorkeled in the underground caves of the cenotes under the jungle of Central America with stalagmites rubbing my stomach while stalagtites caught in my hair a.s.a. a tight fit.
