About Me

Hi there!

I'm Seb, a physics and statistics student from Australia. I was born and raised in Perth, will complete my bachelor's degree in 2020 in Melbourne however currently I am staying in France for work. I'm currently not accepting guests as I do not have a consistent home anywhere.

I love the outdoors, and want to see far more of the world to do hiking and meet people from other walks of life. Most of my spare time is spent doing 3 things- exercising, learning new things in programming/science/effective altruism, and watching movies. In regular life in Melbourne I work at a school supervising boarding students in their "home away from home" and tutoring math to support myself through university.

I'm fluent in English and I'm learning French (solid B1 now, aiming to sit my B2 DELF in June). Having grown up in a household that was very conservative in travel methods, I'm excited to experience a world outside of hostels, motels, hotels and obsessive preparation. Know everything you can before you go and learn the rest while you're there I reckon!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In short, to meet people! Being lonely can ruin travel, but making great friends always becomes a highlight of the trip. I'm excited to be able to welcome people into my home when I settle down in one place one day.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Perhaps the thing that would make people say "wow" is a trip I took to the Northern Territory of Australia. Life was not going well for me in Melbourne, so with 2 weeks of exams left I decided to take a trip to the an incredibly beautiful, empty and wild part of Australia before travelling around the world a bit.

During the month I spent in the NT, I hitchhiked for the first time (much to the chagrin of my parents), hiked in total isolation for 2 days, and then did a 14 day hike called the Larapinta Trail by myself (making trail friends of course!).

It was a month that certainly helped me get my life and mind together again, and an experience I will cherish forever.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to teach math and science, and introduce people to the wonderful (and slightly wacky) world of effective altruism. Other than that I'm fascinated by being challenged by others in discussing politics, economics and philosophy, and want to learn French and help others with their English at the same time!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation, a bottle of wine, and stories of Australia?

Other than those fairly cliche things one thing I'm good at is helping people protect their digital (online) privacy from companies.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, French Polynesia, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
