About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Following a path to cultural and (in)sane enlightenment, where ever it may take ye....

ABOUT ME

oh sweet folks, please first read my updated couch section (see left) to see which dates are not possible to host anyone before you write a request to me...

I'm Belgian, but grew up & lived in various countries, so am quite nomadic by nature. Eternal wanderlust in my genes I guess. When not travelling, I spend a lot of my time on music/writing/reading & allsorts cultural stuff.

I work part time as a librarian in a Brussels borough bibliotheque, and I dj a lot as well (parties/concerts, mostly world music or underground/indie stuff) and write for music magazine/blog on the side.

PHILOSOPHY

just travel & wanderlust around to inspire yourself & others, it will make you feel alive. walk, travel & move in new directions and your spirit will never grow tired.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

by being on CS; hosting or surfing myself

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

intermediate; so far in 3 continents, with rich and poor, for rich and poor ;)

Interests

wandering, getting lost and travelling like most folks here. I like doing music projects, collecting music and writing nonsense as my purest window of expression on blogs or for a music/counterculture magazine.

Since 5 years, me & friends organise global & non-profit dance nights in Amsterdam (NL) & Brussels (BE) by the name of Rebel Up! Soundclash.
our motivation; global music doesn't need to be defined by circum-styled borders such as *balkan*, *reggae*, *african*, *latino*, *indian* etc, so we play all these sounds mixed in a tasty mishmash.

I sometimes also organise special (livingroom)concerts with any experimental/alternative musical style and such.

Music, Movies, and Books

music: blues, indie, global dance or folk sounds from any corner of the world, roots, electronica, punkrock, experimental noise, natural sounds, the laughter of friends...you name it.

not a big tv watcher. I rather watch arthouse movies or documentaries to do about the world affairs or creative/inspiring spheres. Especially everything by Werner Herzog. + one of the best/bizarre movies; Mr Lonely by Harmony Korine. I dare you :)
also the movies Dogtooth & Alps by Greek director Giorgos Lanthimos are quite warped!

read quite a lot, mostly graphic novels, but also a few real books at same time and not always finishing them, books of social/political/artistic free-thinkers (Thoreau, Henry Miller, H.S. Thompson, Orwell, Nietzsche, Burroughs and the likes). Just all what keeps a person busy in his free time, I guess. also lots of travelogues; Empires of the Indus by Alicia Albinia is a fine book if you want to read about contemporary rural Pakistan! as well as Bicycle Diaries by David Byrne is a good philosphoical read about city cycling.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

gazed upon the beautiful dusty/green ridges of the moroccan Atlas & Rif mountains, a spiritual mind travel with mushrooms, the beauty & hardships in the Annapurna/Himalaya mountains, being moved by so many artists and their music, enjoyed the company of rough yet proud gypsies in Rajasthan, went to a Rajasthani gypsy wedding and also a tribal Adivasi jungle wedding in eastern India, travelling the Amazon by boat, holding a wild sloth (bicho preguisa!) and baby cayman in my arms, playing football against Amazonian indian lady team in the swamp and losing fair. but later winning from a Brazilian men team ;)
..surely the best things in life come to you if you reach out and just enjoy....

Teach, Learn, Share

let people listen or learn what they like to...nothing is black or white in life, just many shades of special grey.

What I Can Share with Hosts

right now sadly can not host due to circumstances, but always ready to help if you need cultural tips on Brussels & good concerts/parties etc. just pm me
